My wife did not remember to brink her passport. I know at bride she can use ID for short stay and limited area. I am asking if she can enter Laos at Thanalong, or if she must use the bridge.

Thais need a border pass not just their ID to enter Laos.

If she got a border pass before clearing immigration and boarding the train I am certain she would not have a problem.

Not sure where there are office near the train station for getting a border pass.

The Border Pass Office in Nong Khai is in the centre of town on Prajak Sillapakhom Alley. There is quick service, a car park.

Thai ID required of course.

Sorry, I meant to go in to Laos. If not have a passport, they must use the bridge, yes?

There is a considerable wait time between trains, so I suspect she could go to border pass office at the bridge then come back  to the train station
