Until now I saw all Bond movies.

I know now already I will skip that one.

And I am pretty sure many people will do the same. So maybe there will be a new male Bond after that or no Bond movie anymore.

What a shame.

Why? As far as i can tell James Bond is still Daniel Craig and he is still the main character. Just as part of the plot he has supposedly died and the lady takes his 007 status.

Can you not just sit and watch a film and enjoy it regardless of who is who, or if its a lady or man? or black or white?

Seems there marketing department has hit the nail on the head and got people talking about it. And you probably wont admit it, but you will watch it really.

could she not have been say 003 or 004 ? why the need to split the 007 from the bond name ? is it not 2 peas in a pod ?

this will end up being a dumpster fire.

make a new bondish type movie with sanaa lathan or lashana lynch as 004 and i am soo game to watch.

this split of bond from 007 has nothing to do with story line and you know it. with many of these  similar type changes happening over the past few years it's clear as to why this is happening.

i think you are missing the point. change just for the sake of change and appeasement are not usually a successful model. hollywood has very little new ideas now a days so i wouldn't expect anything less.

i wonder what other 9 thousand remakes and reboots are on the way........

Its just a film..... it does not really matter that much....

The only reason its even a story is because its a lady.

If in a Bond script it was written that Bond was presumed dead and his replacement came in and took his 007, before he miraculously reappeared alive to retake his 007, then you would not have even started this thread. The only reason you did was because its a lady, which i believe is what the PR machine intended all along.

i started the thread because i read the news. your assumptions say otherwise eh. i know its just a film hence me only posting the article for others to see with no commentary.

when the next bond film is announced with a full replacement for 007 will you stick with your words ? i will eat crow and grovel at the feet of those who i disagreed with if it doesn't.

also stop playing coy you know what is really going on with this move. it is a very common trend happening quite often now in all forms of entertainment. if you want to have a discussion on that i am open to that.

sincerely

I am sure there were plenty of topics on this about 3 months ago when it was announced. In your last paragraph i am not 100% sure what you are suggesting? I presume you are suggesting that people other than white males are being permitted to have major roles in films?

ps best actor on tv right now is arguably viola davis.

pps. could you please link me to these plenty of topics where it was discussed. i remember one about idris and not much else.

I'm hoping for a Chinese female cast as the next Henry VIII.

And how about Leonardo DiCaprio as Martin Luther King?

The major difference being, 2 are were/are real people, the other is a fictional character.

In real life, not all secret agents are white males.

OK, let's have God and Jesus as black females, and Allah as a white female in the next movies.

And he still is. They are not making James Bond a black female. James Bond is still a white gentleman.

this move is just a way to ease into the new character that will be presented in the next film...... willing to place a bet ? and if gentleman you mean male chauvinist womanizer then yes he sure is lol.

We will see.  We can come back to this in a year or two.

I also read all the Bond books. James Bond = 007 = a male white heterosexual character.

I also watched Charlies Angeles on TV and in the cinema. Should we have a new version with a couple of guys, maybe gay, playing the angles?

And then there were all those great Reacher novels. "Reacher is described as being 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m) tall, weighing 210–250 pounds (95–113 kg) and having a 50-inch (130 cm) chest." (Wikipedia) And that character is played by little Tom Cruise (172.1 cm). Laughable. I will never watch that movie.

But I liked Tom Cruise in Top Gun, long time ago.

What's the point of changing well known characters? Stupid political correctness, etc.!

replacing males in popular roles with women is getting a bit much, ghost busters did it and failed, dr who did it and is dropping ratings, now bond  is in the same mode. They really need to stick with the same characters as the books/original scripts, so over all the political correct garbage that has taken over everything, while the actresses may well be good it is taking away the story lines that were created and its just to please the political correct crowd, seems that these people simply want to change history to suit themselves

I don't believe it is 'political correctness', more like 'hate for white males' which is becoming more and more prevalent in our home countries.

How do they manage to get financing for such an obvious flop in the making?

Can't see any real people wanting to flush a few millions down the toilet.

Maybe Me2 is doing the financing. Then before the movie there will be a 20 minutes lecture why Bond can't kiss women anymore. Probably Miss Moneypenny complained about all those things Bond did 30 years ago.

I won't. It'll be another woman that can beat up men disaster of a movie, and will be the end of the Bond franchise. They think they are being smart by not making her "Jane Bond", but I hope all right thinking red blooded men will not fall for this garbage and boycott the movie.

I'm sick of the PC madness that has black actors playing white historical characters and women playing men's roles.

Also, the committees that write these PC wrecks have no idea how to write a decent story. They try so hard not to offend anyone that the story ends up being feeble and useless.

It's just exploiting the goodwill that was created by a franchise to make money, and sod the character.

Actually, Cruise does a reasonable job, and height isn't important. I'll see the next one.

The next Charlie's Angels is out and has a PC crew. Judging by the shorts I won't be seeing it.

Strangely ( not ), every movie featuring bad ass women that has come out recently has been a disaster. Luckily I read the reviews of "The Kitchen" before I wasted my money.

Name a good one?

I was saying that it's not strange, not that there had been a good one.

I watched Jane Eyre the other day. It had a woman playing her. Strangely I don't think it would have been better to have replaced her with a male actor called James Eyre.

Will we have a white actor playing Nelson Mandela anytime soon, and if not, why not?

As I posted previously, hatred for white males is driving the industry.

White males must be relegated to playing only bad/hateful/weak characters.

i am agreeing with you , but have you seen "Atomic Blonde"?

I did, but I can't tell you what happened in it, it was soooooo memorable, not.

On the other hand I can remember lots from the first Bond film, Dr No, and Ursula Andress didn't kick a single ass in the entire movie.

Films with female leads that I like are more along the lines of

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Attractive female, strong, but in a non kick ass way. The sort one would like to take home to see mother.

None of the new breed are desirable as partners in life.

Remember Dianna Rigg as Emma Peel ( now there's a suggestive name worthy of a Bond girl- we're not supposed to call them girls now, but what are "they" going to do about it? )? She was every red blooded male's desire, but had more feminity in her little finger than this new 007 woman has in her entire body.
