An internet banking fraud gang wanted by the Chinese government after they fled to Phuket to lay low has been tracked down by Thai immigration police.

Pol Lt-General Sompong Chingduang, the Immigration Bureau commander, on Wednesday announced the arrest of three suspects, namely Ma Jin and Li Yingquan, both 42, and Chen Zhenhua, 30. They were wanted on arrest warrants issued by Tianjin Police Department in China over a Bt700 million swindle using an internet banking transaction.

“The Immigration Bureau has been working with International Crime Prevention Unit and Phuket Immigration Office to track the activities of these three suspects,” said Sompong. “They fled from China to Phuket to lay low at an apartment in Kamala subdistrict of Katu district.”

The three Chinese nationals will have their visas and passports revoked and later be sent back to China for prosecution.

Sompong revealed that Ma, a former financial employee of a company in China, used a specialised USB stick to transfer money from the company’s internet banking transactions into his own account starting in 2017.

“He swindled over Bt700 million by making 188 transfers from the company's account, while the other 2 suspects are accomplices who fled to Phuket together.”

By my experiences dealing with the Chinese, they will not do anything without thinking about making a buck out of you. Even when they smile at you, they are thinking about money and how they can profit from talking to you. I have worked for the Chinese a couple times and by my experiences I will never work again for Asians, specially the Chinese. They are always trying to scam the insurance companies and looking for free handouts, specially when they are fresh off the boat.

Chinese crooks stealing large sums and heading overseas is not new, but I did find it interesting that "The Nation" managed to get those ancient Thai idioms - "on the lam" and "lay low" into the story.

I also like the new white storyboard spelling out events for those who have trouble following.

"ooops I forgot what I was going to say"-  really? Alzheimer ? I will say it for you- here it goes, for Bt 700 Million perhaps the police will squeeze something out of these 3 before sending them back to China- once back in China they could be executed -then you don't hear anymore from them.

So it's kind of safe to get whatever you could out of them. They could say to them if you pay Bt 50 million we could get help you to stay in Thailand or get you over to Cambodia or India. Once paid, they ship them to China.

I think I will not miss three Chinese out of 1.3 billion. Go to San Francisco and you can walk or drive for blocks without seeing anything  but Asians. And now they are moving to my county.
