Two women escape serious injuries as car rams 18-wheeler at traffic lights, catches fire

PHUKET: Two young women escaped serious injury when the car they were driving slammed into the back of an 18-wheeled truck waiting at a set of lights early this morning (Oct 21). The car caught fire, with passers-by rushing to the women’s aid and safely recovering them from the vehicle.

 

Wichit Police Chief Col Nikorn Somsuk told The Phuket News that the accident occurred at the intersection of Bangyai Rd and Wichit Songkram Rd at about 5:30am.

 

Capt Chatree Chuvichian of the Wichit Police responded to the call for assistance, Col Nikorn said.

No see light! No see truck! A blind person with a driver license driving her blind friend home? Yeah, stranger things have happened.

"when the car they were driving slammed into the back of a truck" - please read when the driver drove into a parked truck! 

Just when you think it's nice quiet on the roads at that time of the morning, it can be just as dangerous here people out drinking all night

Vigilance is a virtue !

I don't think Thais need alcohol to impair their ability to drive, or to judge speed and distance, or to impact their ability to pay attention.

I normally drive to work (via the gym) around 5.30 am & its madness coming over Patong hill and near to Bangla......

A couple of days ago, at about 4am, some friends were speeding down CFw to get a seriously ill child to hospital when they were passed by 2 mini vans having a race.

The vans did stop at some lights, my friend went straight through, and was again passed by the racers further down the road. Couldn't see if the vans had passengers or not. 

The roads are racetracks in the early hours.

But at least if they were pi$$ed there is a chance they may not do the same sober.

If sober, they will probably do the same again until they become one of the road statistics.
