Just another way to extort cash from the Minnions but would never surprise me if they made it law for Farang owned vehicles, as we are apparently the evil ones in their midst !

Hang on ...hang on ... sure 'some' GPS units are becoming quite cheap and are 'personal' GPS units whether they be in a car, on a bike or in your pocket, but the GPS units that relay signals back to a Base Station are a different story ... we are looking at thousands of dollars and even more for the base station to monitor them, probably into the $100,000's ... Mining Companies often have them to keep track of their drivers etc. including where and when they may stop (when they shouldn't) ...

However, all politicians, armed forces generals and above, and Police Officers will be exempt.............on the grounds of National Security.

You clearly forgot the busses and trabspoet van companies including taxis as these or company owned vehicles not privately. How about starting with them including getting chiped themselves being the drivers. So after they comit a crime and run theu cam be found even after they ditch their vehicle they commited the crime in.

I don't think that they're going near far enough. Everyone should be required to wear an active body cam at all times, 24/7, in or out of the house. ????

I just posted on another thread that Thai bureaucrats solutions to problems show a pathetic lack of thought. It's strangely gratifying, saddening, and amusing -- all at once -- to be validated so quickly!

He said that if all vehicles had the technology then the DLT would be able to monitor speeds.

And the added benefit would be that the location of the driver would be known at all times meaning that crime could be lessened too.

monitor speeds = tickets in the mail.

So they would know who the driver is too?

Or if you want to commit crime and/or speed disable the device.

Don't disable the device. Leave it in in your shed.

I'm guessing someone's brother, or maid, owns a GPS manufacturing plant.

Must increase the production of Brown envelopes!

Someone just invested in a GPS device company.

The logic is flawed. Criminals won't install a GPS, just as criminals wont do TM30, so it will not affect crime.

These idiots can't get 50% of people to wear helmets or fix brake lights...how they going to enforce a 3,000 baht GPS system.

Fail.

That's a very generous percentage, I fear you hit the wrong key.

Anyone who would be a target for crominals could be easily tracked and shot, robbed, raped, or kidnapped. The criminals use all the tech we have and more. This wpuld play into their hans and put the general puplic at further risk not less. As said before, all criminals can change codings of GPS and remove them at will. They will not have any impact on crime or speeding but have an impact on poor peoples pockets. They are trying to use yhd technology for revenue collection rather than make people safe.

A proper driving test like in Europe, regular TV adverts showing drivers how to drive. A 20000 baht fine for not wearing a helmet or driving on footpaths or the wrong direction on a roadway. Proper enforcement of the vehicle testing with big fines for the garages that don't do the checks properly. Proper maintenance and lighting on roads. Loads of good stuff they could do but no, they wsnt to screw the people for more indirect taxes.

They can't even monitor their own police cars ,bikes and emergency vehicles.

Have more than 13 million unpaid traffic offense fines.

So how will they monitor every single public car, bike and truck?

Minister, you can monitor speed , it is done by means of a policeman and speed gun, or, as i suspect if there are no available police officers a fixed camera is just as good or better, i get a feeling the GPS idea might not go down to well with the motorists who refuse to obey any rules.

Is there not a requirement for statements to go through a media office before released

Yet more evidence of this governments Orwellian paranoia about security. Are they insane or just insecure?

When they steal a car in the UK, first thing the thief does is find the tracker and chuck it in a bin.

If they give me a GPS I am gonna attach it to a Skytrain and they can monitor that endlessly going to and fro.

They would microchip all of us if they thought they could get away with it. (Note to self:- Do not feed the animals with ideas).
