I have to apply for Lao tourist visa in Bangkok.

I cannot get visa on arrival because I will take the bus from Udon Thani to Vang Vieng, and the bus will not wait for visa application at the border.

To buy seats tickets in the bus, I need to show the Lao visa in my passport.

What is the cost for getting Lao visa at Lao embassy in Bangkok ? And how long to get it ?

Thank you.

I have done this journey several times

the bus stops at Vientiane, you go thru immigration, and re enter the bus

perhaps things have changed? But I don’t think so

many buses going to the border, then take the public bus to central station

then get the bus to vang vieng

very easy

I asked at the bus station this morning. They said I have to show my visa on passport otherwise they will not sell me the ticket. They will not wait for people at immigration at the border or Ventiane in any case.

Do you need to have Thai residency before you can apply for a Lao tourist visa in BKK?

The international bus that goes from Khon Kaen & Udon Thani to Vientiane won't take foreigners who don't already have a Lao tourist visa. This is because sometimes (in the past, maybe not so much these days) there were long lines at Lao immigration and it could take an hour or longer for the VOA to be finished, so Thais and Laos on the bus got annoyed from waiting.

So forget that international bus. From Udon just take a regular bus to Nong Khai, then take a tuk-tuk to Friendship bridge and after exiting Thailand take the bus that goes over the bridge to Lao Imm. Get your VOA and when you exit the Imm check point you can take the local bus or taxi into Vientiane. Then go to any travel/tour shop and get a ticket for a minivan to Vang Vieng. Or if you're on a tight budget take a bus from Talad Chao (the Morning Market)

This is all current info. I did the trip from Nong Khai to Vang Vieng and back with my TGF a few months ago.

So I went to Lao Embassy in BKK.

Arrived at 9.30am and was almost alone there.

I applied for the tourist Visa. Gave 1,400 THB. and got my Visa 1 hour later.

Left at 10.30am.
