Owl Market report...

Featured Replies

I finally went to the lesser known Owl Market last night.  walked to purple line, and the 18 bus from Victory Monument was there, so I took it and it wasn't crowded and there was a good breeze and light traffic.  Others on the bus were going to the market, followed them, but the google map was ok.  Easy walk from Central Ratanabit or the Yaek Nonthaburi 1 MRT.  There were just a few farang there, and there were some non farang English speakers.  Very few Chinese, no African/Indian but some Muslims out there.  There is good headroom and easy to navigate..some good food, and even a few buffets going.  A decent place for families by BKK standards, and anyone else.  I had some great bbq sauce with a 49 THB chicken pattie meal, that was tight.  Did a 20 THB noodle dish, too.  Open seating on picnic tables.  I was really turned off by Chatuchak, but will return to this one.  I carried a small cooler, and cracked a beer with dinner...totally fine.  Try doing that on Sukhumvit.  I will attempt to answer questions you may have.  Mosquito repellent, yes, but it does seem to cool off a little better out there away from the heat island.  40 minute MRT ride from Asok.

What do you mean by non farang English speakers? Farang is the Thai word used for foreigners, and why would you mention Muslims, that's not a country, it's a religion, you didn't mention there were catholic's or any other religion. Strange...

Maybe you should lighten up a bit and just enjoy his post for information.

Tainted? What is your life poisoned now?

Mentioning something isnt discrimination dude. If I say that Soi Arab is full of burkhas, robes and turbans thats a description. Like Long Neck Karen. Like Yob in a Singlet.

Theres no safe space for the real world.

Looks like the Portlandia crowd has relocated from CM to BKK.  The Africans and Indians annoy the <deleted> out of me on Sukhumvit, thought it was worth mentioning they are not at the Owl.  Catholics?  Didn't see any crying children.  21 years here, off and on, and never seen farang refer to a non- white person.

Dinner was 49 THB.. would be worth a trip back just for the BBQ sauce.

Thanks for the report OP, sounds interesting. Please try to be more politically correct in the future because I'm very sensitive and may have an emotional breakdown.

Yeah dude that looks good. I may detour there on my next Koh Ket expedition.

Did those muslims sell nice kebab/shawarma or other spiced up meat? They are the best in making meat tasty. Or maybe rendang beef or chicken?

The place I went was Muslim, they also had a beef and pork dinner deal.. 69 I think.  Some of the Muslim fried chicken is hit and miss, never terrible, but often the best is by people from the South, same as America.  In CM, this guy had a cart, Hat Yai, chicken that outstanding.  My donut place is run by people from Hat Yai, too.

I see, not sure if it's from hat yai but i absolutely love the yellow rice with a chickenleg...it's from the south i bet.

When there's a wedding/furniture fair in impact muang thong there's always a vendor from the south selling that dish, but she's famous my wife told me she won some awards and that's why it costs 80 baht.

But i've never seen them selling pork, that must be a thailand only i guess.

The dish you had i can easy eat 2 or 3 of them haha.

I complimented mine with a 20 THB bowl of noodles, that were also tight.  I just returned from the US.. gained 6 kg... but was doing steak and potatoes every day. Good to lighten up.

To burn energy i like to walk an hour or more if not too hot. That owl market is huge late at night, i've walked all over many times...also bought a lot of stuff for my nephews and cousins...things you won't find in any shop. Oh and they have nice popcorn there as well.
