AOT to consider closing Chiang Rai airport

Featured Replies

Saw an article on this in the news today.

That would inconvenience a few people.

I'm sure it will get a few people apoplectic but officials do a lot of talking and most of it comes to nothing, so I will take a wait and see attitude. ????

All airports to stay amid woes of over-capacity

Transport Minister Saksiam Chidchob has said the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) didn’t have a policy to close or downgrade any airport in Thailand, including those in Hat Yai and Chiang Rai, and there is no change to the planned expansion of six airports.

I think they want to "Offload" the Airports as not making enough money for them.

Closing CR Airport would surely get tourist numbers up, trust TAT to take care of that......

It has been suggested elsewhere that they may be looking to close the international side of the operation. I think that there are only a couple of flights a week from China.
