An unhealthy level of smog is reported in 16 areas of Bangkok and two neighbouring provinces today, according to a bulletin from the Department of Pollution Control released via its Facebook page at 7am this morning.

The areas where the level of PM2.5 dust particles exceeds 50 microns are Kanchanapisek Road, Din Daeng Road, the districts of Pathumwan, Bang Khor Laem, Yan Nawa, Thon Buri, Klong San, Bangkok Noi, Phasi Charoen, Bang Phlad, Bang Khun Thian and Sathorn in Bangkok. The smog is also affecting Tambon Paknam of Muang district, Tambo Song Khanong of Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan, Tambon Om-noi in Krathum Ban district and Tambon Mahachai in Muang district of Samut Sakhon province.

Monitoring devices show a moderate level of smog, which is not a threat to health, other in 22 areas. The Department of Pollution Control said it has coordinated with authorities in the smog-affected areas in taking steps to restore air quality as quickly as possible.

Seeing as the pollution level is unhealthy every day in Bangkok, do we really need another attention seeking, alarmist headline?  Far better to wait a few months when it may reach Delhi levels and then start panicking people.

Why do reporters not nail these muppets to a cross? Just how do they propose to "restore air quality " ??

I can only recommend the Xiaomi air purifiers. I got three now, they keep my inside air at 10-13 AQI, when it's 20-40 outside here in Patts. I verified with an external AQI meter. Lazada has them.

Or, move out. This will only get worse.

In other news tourists are warned about smoking cigarettes in public places :w00t:

For fun I tried smoking a cigar near the Xioami. It went berserk, topped at 600 AQI I think and started blowing like a hurricane. So I guess the air is still a little bit cleaner than it would be through a lit Romeo & Julieta No.3.
