Btw, what's on nana pics and vids.

Yes, I think you have it sussed about 'emails - passwords - wills - uferacts'. They are self-explanatory; although now obsolete.

But not so with Nan's pics and vids. I changed my mind about Thai's nocturnal pastimes after finding this folder on the old computer. A lot of innocent  schoolgirl stuff too.

I was gonna delete most of it; honest.

Owl Log - 15-05-2021 - Saturday evening

Have not been to Ban Dung or Phen for a week now. TBH I don't miss either town. Very content to mooch around the village and go to the farm.

Last year (2020) snake-fish were dying in pond one. Never got to the bottom of it. Went there today with Mildred only to see history repeating itself.

While we were at that end we removed the two caps from the overflow pipes.

751392132_capsoff01.png.88ef737aa3ed4e622b379b7430d61588.png

Mildred held the net and I teased the caps off. And took the pics.

1704534397_capsoff03.png.f20af55cac259b94d8ca1967eba07852.png

Last year I dropped the end cap into the drink. Fortunately it didn't go very far.

Then time for Mil to catch a fish or two.

Or no fish. Tree still leaning. Will this be the year?

Guy's farm has had a delivery of concrete rings.

Don't know why his pond is empty. Pump kaput maybe? I'll ask him next time I see him. Better to get Mil to ask him though.

No more shredded reishi, so had to get the leftovers from the freezer.

Not gonna be massively strong, so only added 6/7 litres of water. After boiling away for a couple of hours, it reduced down to 4 and a half litres.

A great drink; even when weak. Better than beer; not really! But with Lao Khow added it runs Leo close.

The latest avocado is the fastest grower I've ever had. Getting on for a metre and thickening too. Had to move it from the shelf as it would surely have grown through the ceiling.

Not fixed the roof yet. Must get it done. It rained hard for 10 minutes last night. But very disappointing to get up this morning to see just a couple of mms. Must try to sort it before August.

The Irons are gradually slipping away. Man U couldn't help them against Liverpool.

Mildred has to go to school to sort out her books on the 24th of this month. I am wondering what the mask wearing rules will be. I've a feeling that I'll be home-teaching her all this term.

Musky will not be using bitcoin for some transactions. Not sure if it's cars or fares to the moon. Bitcoin dropped 10%, Should I jump in?

Ordered a few things from Lazada this week. A 'military grade' torch. A pair of sneakers for Mildred and a some more salmon fish oil.

On Friday I had a check to see if there were still four in the pack. No! Only one there. "Teerkak. What has happened to all the fish oil bottles?"

"I give one to mother. Two sold."

"OK! Teerak. Where is the money?"

"You and Milly greedy pigs. Buy food!"

"Yes of course. Never realised. Sorry to ask."

Lottery day tomorrow.

I'm keeping my promise not to get involved in the covid threads on TVForum. It's very tempting. Very difficult not to post. But I'm staying strong.

Listened to Tony Gosling and Martin Summers on their Friday Evening show this morning. Absolutely fantastic. Gone off Talk Radio altogether. It's just not the same since Julia Hartley-Brewer had her wings clipped by YouTube a few months back. I hear that RT has fallen fowl of YT regulators also. I can't get any English speaking channels on my True Visions package either now. No France24, no Aljazera, no DM, no RT, no Press TV. Where is debate on the main stream?

Hurt my hip playing footy yesterday. Have to stop doing those overheads. Must play in goal next time. Trying to rest up the best I can. Find it very difficult. Don't know how bluesofa handles it.

Only one thing left to say; bye y'all.

Owl Log - 19-05-2021 - Wednesday morning

My 'military grade' flashlight arrived. 77 baht! Would it live up to expectations? It didn't come with batteries. So put them on the essential buy list.

715439283_flashlight00.png.638a0bf69e4184548145cbc29f73efca.png

Went to Ban Dung yesterday and picked up a battery pack. They are the same size ones as those in the TV remote, so they will be handy.

1064987208_flashlight01.png.bf1d4093c5f04713099acf27a53bd11f.png

Has a sliding function. Can either be spot, or very broad; and anything in between.

1896305724_flashlight02.png.eec337810e7b410b7c9d75231d5c19a2.png

Had to call into the local clinic on the way to town to get the MinL's medication. It is not an emergency place. According to the Mrs, it only functions 3/4 times a month. Don't know how they manage to keep themselves busy. Two of those days are for local mothers and babies. Mildred had her weighing done there; pink book.

1201553888_clinic03.png.6ff773605cf3c67d49128f4428704deb.png

Very well kept. The gardener and maintenance guys are doing a fine job. No water flowing in the fountain though.

1009333499_clinic02.png.7ef350bf598db1eb545d8dff1d4f0ce7.png

Buffaloes on their way home after a hard day in the fields. The girl in pink often manages them on her own.

1328376920_bringbuffaloeshome02.png.24e252b7f5fba1362e5910a4c9197704.png

First rain for ages. Only a shower; nothing to get too excited about. But anything is welcome.

Stopped outside the MinLs to pass over the medication. Beautiful flowers. I notice that the colours here seem to be very vivid. If they are white; they are very white. Same with the reds, purples and yellows. Or is my mind playing tricks? I can't recall too many flowers in Dagenham Dock. I remember roses and daffodils; that's about it. Oh yes! Buttercups and dandelions.

863402926_whiteflowers02.png.63eb364a6ba458f8271556eaca7c25db.png

Pook's farm has undergone a transformation. The cucumbers have gone and it has been ploughed and rotivated ready for rice. About eight rai in all.  Perhaps they couldn't get enough water to the plants? Me and Mildred checked on their pond to see. It seemed to be the case.

Been over a week since I last went to Ban Dung, so the bridge over the stream on the 2022 road had progressed massively.

1440900571_bridgeOK01.png.34b5258d87b2f29406078de09b33e955.png

2038786755_bridgeOK02.png.501d2f5cbe07947f3df81816819296a9.png

The centre section is well on its way to completion. If the outer sections are not gonna be upgraded, then I think the work will be complete in the next couple of weeks. If the outer parts (where the vehicles are now running) are going to get the same treatment as the centre sections then I think July or even August.

Not been fishing with a rod and line for a week.

Mildred likes to get them in her net when they come up for food in pond five. Sometimes she snares a pla nin, but mostly it's carp, and they get put into the next pond.

It was easy when she first started doing this, but has gradually got harder due to the fish sussing her out.

My hip is gradually improving. Getting in the pick-up is a struggle. Can not always  comprehend what it's like to have severe restricted movements until we get it. Thinking of bluesofa as I write this. I'm sure he will be charging about on his bike before too long.

Rumors going about. Can't say any more, but the Mrs says it's all over her social media platforms.

Just gonna post this Owl Log and I'll settle down to listen to last night's Richie Allen show. Very interesting on Monday. Peter Ebdon, the snooker champion of years past, was his guest. Peter is a spiritual healer and loves his horses.

Quiet in Ban Dung yesterday. 90% of people wearing masks. Lottery tickets still at 100 baht. Don't suppose they will ever return to their proper price of 80 baht now. Chan-o-cha made the lottery tickets one of his corner stones of reform.

Water went off about seven last evening. Still not back on. No-one seems to know what the problem is.

This year the mangoes seem to be a bit lacking. They are just not as good as previous times. Are my taste buds diminishing?!

The price of cashew nuts is exorbitant. 800gms for 300 baht in Big C yesterday; down from 365 baht. Same with avocadoes at 79 baht each. Good thing I'm growing my own trees. No rosella at all.

Mrs Owl is moaning that the Thai lottery is all wrong. She picks number 57 and 14 comes up. Picks 18 and it's 96. I asked her about the three numbers. Pick three numbers and for 100 baht, can win 40,000. "Teerak, dear. It's a thousand to one shot. Should give more than 40% return to the winner."

"Farang not understand Thai numbers lottery. I will soon win."

Last time (16th May) three successive numbers came up 12 times. The most I've seen since I've been taking notice. Must keep an eye open for that lucky winning ticket.

Went into the natural heath shop yesterday in Ban Dung. Ting was there and served me a load of reishi for just 100 baht. "Make farang strong." Mrs owl was outside in the pick-up, so we kept it very professional. Lovely orange hat outside on the rack. Next time.

I notice Naomi Campbell has just had a baby girl. At 50. Every red-bloodied man's wet dream 30 years back.

Wet dream for me as well, sure.

As long as someone taped her mouth shut. I've seen video of her appalling attitude, once when boarding a flight from Heathrow she was extremely rude to cabin staff because she didn't get the first class seat she wanted. IIRC she was thrown off the plane.

I see you're posting subversive videos now - Millie outside without a mask. Holiday material?

No doubt one of the Three Musketeers have checked it out already....????????????

Naomi wasn't a shy person. Spoke her mind to the point of being rude; as you say.

Point taken about taking pics of people without masks. I can recall the three people that were in the village wearing masks; at least while I was looking. One was an ice-cream seller. The other two were garbage collectors.

I'll be careful.

Even driving in your car alone, incredibly I think you're supposed to wear a mask (as it's 'outside your home' according to the regs).

Problem now is that, even as the fine has so kindly been reduced from 6,000 to 1,000 Baht, it can create an opportunity for police to make some money out of it. Or is that just  my cynicism at work?

My info' is that there are four things for sure that can exempt you outside. Maybe there are more?

01 - Drinking. A plastic cup of juice with a big straw. Or swigging a can of cola.

02 - Eating. I always keep a sausage in my pocket for this.

03 - Smoking. According to the lady doing the slippery massages.

04 - Exercising. Self explanatory; any physical activity really.

The local market started up again last evening. Masks about 50/50.

I won't ask about the sausage in your pocket.

Out our way, absolutely everyone on the regular market wears a mask. No exceptions - other people will tell them to put one on or to go away.

04 - Exercising.

It seems that although the face mask regulation is nationally implemented, the exercise one is vague and set at local level.

Despite a senior government doctor last year stating publicly you must not wear a mask when exercising as it restricts the free flow of air into the lungs, and you need more air when running, cycling, etc.

(I'm not referring to our mate Big Nut - he's no doctor)

My interest is regarding cycling. if I ever get back on the bike after being side-swiped while in a wide motorbike lane by a car driver in the first car lane not paying attention. Caused me a fractured spine and broken coccyx (don't snigger boy).

Been meaning to ask about your bike, was it completely ruined or is it repairable? ????

I had a Trek - don't remember which one, about 25 years ago, cost around £800 if I remember correctly.

Loved the damn thing, but it got nicked & for some reason wasn't covered by insurance.????

It was nicked by some 'bagheads' (probably) outside of Bristol library. When I discovered it was gone, someone came up to me & said they'd seen some scrotes bashing the lock with a brick....! ????

I just googled Trek. Apparently it started in a small Wisconsin barn in 1976.

It's a buggar when your possessions are stolen like that. You didn't get another bike?

Back to my life story.

Originally I had assumed I'd been hit from behind. I wrote an epic about it:

https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1209848-cycling-accident/

However, a month later I took my bicycle to the shop where I bought it, for the guy to tell me what it might cost to repair. Initially he said it seemed OK, but he would need to examine it more.

Immediately after that we had to go to a meeting at the police station with my 'assailant' and her insurance company.

It was while we were waiting for everyone to arrive, I found out I hadn't been hit from behind as I'd thought.

I was side-swiped while in a wide motorbike lane, by a car driver in the first car lane not paying attention.

She managed to swerve into my lane and her nearside wing mirror hit my handlebars and my wing mirror.

I didn't see any of this, I just heard a bang, felt an enormous thump, and flew the the air forwards and landed on my back in the motorbike lane.

So yes, the bike is repairable I was told a few days later by the bike shop.

In fact, surprisingly no damage at all. Just line up the handlebars, check the brakes and that should be it.

I've got a new 1,000 Baht Blackburn rear view mirror to replace the exact same one I lost in the accident. I had to buy it from the UK. The insurance company paid for that.

That's the end of it so far. I have to wait another couple of months for an X-ray, and see if I can start cycling again.

The Trek was a great bike. Lance Armstrong promoted them I do believe.

My daughter rode one in the USA when she took the World Triathlon Junior title about 20 years ago. Her bike came from a sponsor; but was in the region of 2.4k quid.

I can remember her telling me that a company approached her about riding their bamboo bike. Yes bamboo! I think that if she had not been already sponsored she might have gone for it,

When I was taken out, it was by a motorcycle passing far too close to me and its wing mirror caught under my arm and dragged me before I went <deleted> over tit. They pulled up just up the road, turned around, saw I was still alive and sped off. At the same time some stall holders at the side of the road were screaming at a pick-up to stop as it was turning out of a side soi and was going to run over me on the main road. I managed to scramble out of the way and tried to pull my bike with me but the pick up ran over the rear wheel before it stopped. Luckily I wasn't hurt like you, just cuts and bruises. Took the wheels off the bike and hopped in a taxi which dropped me off at the bike shop, where I left the bike for repairs. new wheel set and derailleur.

The sod of it was that I had cycled from my home near Udomsuk to Sanam Luang, back along Petchburi road and was heading up Onut to the airport track. So I had been through the heavy traffic areas, only to be taken out on a much quieter road.

Hope everything works out with your back and you can get back in the saddle. I haven't been out on my bike for 5 years now (since I remarried). But will be out a lot when I retire upcountry in a couple of years.

You were hit by a motorbike. I've had a few pass me - in both directions, but not really close.

Having said that, it's only one time too close that causes an accident.

Yeah, nearly getting run over by a pick-up too - the usual lack of spatial awareness.

At least it only ran over your wheel and not your leg.

It's Kalasin-ish, you're moving to isn't it, if IIRC?

That's 170km from me in Udon to Amphur Muang Kalasin. I've no idea if in a couple of years I'll still be able to cycle that far. See how it goes.

There are different types of grasses there are grasses to used in cooking like the lemon grass in the first pic there are grasses the cows enjoy as in the last pic and there are those irritating types of grasses that like to hit the report button.Which of the sharp eyed of you has spotted the one I like?

That Cat With No Name? This is the first cat that arrived with 2 kids and was featured in a photo I posted here asleep in a wok.Max and Lucy the 2 kids got names but this one gets called Mama Cat.She is one of the 6 survivors out of about 26 the litter has been decimated recently, I suspect by dogs.Lucy was my favourite from the start but is suspected to have drowned in the neighbours larger water jar when I we went to Udon to visit friends.Max is still around as is Twinkles the one who got caught in a rodent trap so I had to amputate 2 of her toes due to infection and since then has become somewhat attached to me and sleeps beside me as I post.We also lost the Government cow that had just had a calf so we gave the dead cow back to the Gov and kept the calf which is doing well.

There is also a virus doing the rounds in the bovine population at the moment and shows up in what looks a bit like ringworm I think they call it lumpy skin disease here.I saw one large red calf yesterday that was riddled with it.Some of our cows have a couple of these lumps, it's caused some alarm around the place.

Yes, I am retiring to Kham Muang, Kalasin.

Being a terrain disciple, I cast doubt on 'a virus doing the rounds'.

I would look closely at the water they drink and the food they are eating. If they are free to graze, take a look at the particular area, and see if there is anything you could put your finger on that might be causing them problems. Could it be that they are grazing in an area that has had a glyphosate dousing withing the last few years?.

This 'lumpy skin disease' makes me think that their bodies are trying to shed toxins. If I'm correct, the animals are picking up the poisons from somewhere or other.

Thanks for that FFF.

This looks to me like blood poisoning. The tell-tale signs are the pustules in the lower extremes. The beast cannot shed these toxins in a more natural way*, and the pustules are toxins, chompted up bits of cell and cell tissue desperate to get out. These pustules could possibly erupt; don't know yet. And they are not the problem. They are the result of the problem; whatever that may be.

Could I ask some searching questions? Has the cow been given any sort of medication or injections in the last 3 months or so? Has the cow had an anti-tick wash? Is there any new additives to the food? New transmitter?  Is it possible to be the result of any electrical transmitting. A long shot that, but as 5G gets rolled out more and more, I'm sure it will effect some animals; but perhaps not in this way. 5G is more likely to cause extreme fatigue.

** Normal ways as in poo-poo, peeing. exhaling, sweating or even coughing and sneezing.
