Thai media went to investigate after what they called a "drama" had erupted on social media.

A woman called Supattra Hongkum posted a 43 second video after she went to visit the temple of Wat Nong Ket Yai in Pattaya.

Her video contained captions such as "Thais can't go in" and "Thai temple but there just for the Chinese".

77kaoded reporters hotfooted it to the temple in question and found a lot of Chinese people performing various religious acts and buying things such as OTOP products.

Reporters found they could go anywhere they pleased. This included a red carpet area that had featured in the video.

They spoke to the abbot Phra Khru Wimonjariyalangkarn who said it was true that many Chinese tour groups visited the temple.

But there was no truth that Thais were banned.

The monk suggested it was all an unfortunate misunderstanding.

Who cleans the carpet after the dog has defiled the temple?

trot out the old cliche, *it was a misunderstanding* second only to *my brakes failed*

It may well have been a situation where she was told that she could not enter because it was already overcrowded with Chinese tour groups at that time. Miscommunication or selective outrage.

She's lucky it's free entry for all, my local temple has started to charge tourists to enter.

And so have many others.

Typical Thai xenophobia!  They promote tourism but expect no personal consequences.  There is no shortage of available temples.  If your favorite is full then select another.

Yes but maybe your entrance ticket number will win you the lottery.

Bad news for those who are only here for the temples.

The local people are pi_- rd off with the Chinese going to the temple ,,in fact we pass it regularaly and in the last year or two its just become a Chinese tourist attraction ,always loads of buses parked there and tourists wandering around ,plus loads of stalls have opened up in the vicinity.

I think I read somewhere that there is a temple for every 1,000 Thais so plenty to go round. If the population is 60 million + ?

There's a temple not too far down the road from the MBK shopping mall where I tried to go inside and was told it was for Thai's only.  I went back there a couple of years later in Monks robes, they welcomed me like I was the second coming of the Messiah.  ha ha ha

Doubtful.. I asked the guy asking for an entrance fee at the admission if the temple was a place of religion and worship or was it a tourist attraction?

He eyed me carefully, didn't quite know how to answer.

What a shame!

You need to report it to the authorities

Buddhist temple entry is free everywhere in Thailand

if you have a correct outfit and a respectful behavior

even at the famous Wat Pho in Bangkok

the fee is for the mandatory shoes deposit, not for the temple entry.
