Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today joined the Ministry of Public Health, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (Thai Health) and its network to launch the “No Drink Driving for a Safe Return Home” campaign, which aims at reducing road accidents during the New Year holiday period.

The Prime Minister said most road accidents happen after the driver has consumed alcohol, which makes drivers careless, slow to react and more likely to be involved in accidents.

Pointing out that precautionary steps are being taken by the appropriate agencies to reduce accidents, he reminded motorists to do three things:  love yourself, love your family and love the other people. Car drivers, he said, must not be bad-tempered. Instead, be kind to one another and ready to forgive, as he wished all travellers going home during the holidays a safe journey.

Oh my goodness! (avoiding the inevitable swearing being auto-censored) :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

Next he'll be suggesting onboard meditation to reduce driver stress.

How will his stupid words have any effect on the road toll ?  He should get in a car (Not a chaeuffeur driven Mercedes !)with a few of his pathetic friends and take a drive for a few hours to see the problem

Great plan  - taking all the drivers steering wheels away for 10 days.

Half of them don't use them much anyway.

You have to start counting better, the total inexperience, the lack of a road education, lack of maintenance and drivers full of drugs, these are some of the reasons then as you say also the alkohol.
A total mixture that leads to the unnecessary death of many people!
Thailand is unfortunately reigned by a group of people who are very good at continuously making new laws / rules that are immediately overturned if some important person / organization complains!
Stop being contradictory, make a law and push to enforce it, it is better for the whole country, you are also losing the little credibility that remained!

So if he knows the cause why doesn't he do something more than go to lunch!

MORE  utter  BS most of them  crash because they cant drive because your  driving test  is a  joke, that stupid  video we're  forced to watch ( you know the one  where everyone  falls  asleep or  plays with their  phone) is  about "being polite" and is a  total waste of everyones time, where  the dept for years and maybe still does accept a bribe  for some to "pass" where the Police have zero  activity except to clear up the corpses and count the baht they can make......................but guess  thats how YOu want it mr unelected P?

WHAT...... no free  chicken soup  this year.....disappointed

I just renewed my 5 year Thai DL so had to watch that 1- hour video. Not as bad as I had anticipated, but mostly just dramatizations of people doing dumb stuff and getting injured or killed, so basically scare tactics which is supposed to make you wake up and pay attention. But after collecting my new license, during the 1-hour drive home I swear we saw almost every example of the same same bad driving behavior. Yeah it's a sad joke and none of this "training" seems to have any effect. Oh and during that video as soon as the "teacher" left the room, almost everyone just went back to playing with their phones, totally ignoring the video. They don't give a s hit - just give me my "license" and let me back on the road to do whatever the h ell I want. Me-First, etc.

Safe driving by Thais HA HA HA, even ignorant is too good a word for most of them, and when it comes to Thai bashing, I make no apology when it comes to their road behavior.

Today I rode on my motorbike to the Christmas market about 20 Ks away, and had three cases of bad driving.

Leaving my village, a truck overtook me and turned left into a service area causing me to brake, just as well I checked my mirror and acted on it.

Next, a car leaving another service area on my right drove straight out in front of me again causing me to brake. Only

defensive riding avoided an accident.

Lastly I was walking up the road on the left hand side and a stupid female rode her bike straight into me to try and park.

Thai people are sure very honest, decent, and non confrontational, that is until they get behind the wheel of a car, and

handlebars of a motorbike, then they are about the most senseless morons on this earth.

That would be because when behind the wheel of a car or the handlebars of a motorcycle they believe that they are masters of the latest technology, the fact that they only gave up the pushbike and Buffalo a few years ago has bog all to do with it ????
