hi all, I have a fiesta I am trying to sell, I have had so many messages about it but not one person come to view it, I was told by a Thai person Fords are pretty hard to sell here and not so many Thais are interested in fords, anyway I have been reducing the price right down but still no one is coming to view it, as time is getting closer to when me and the family are going back to the UK its becoming a bit worrying, the mrs said I could take it to ford or the bank and sell it? its a really nice clean car with low milage but my question is, are they going to give me say 50% of its value? is there anywhere else thats good for selling cars? i dont wanna let it go too cheap and others sell at around 200k bhat with higher milage, then again if its a quick sale I would take a loss, any ideas guy? cheers

The bank will not buy it, the ford dealer will give you a bad price.

The obvious is to visit half a dozen secondhand dealers along the streets. Half of them will also give you a very low price, because they basically are not interested. And from the others you will get a good (but still rather low) estimate what the car is worth.

Expat Autos in Chiang Mai will sell on consignment - they may even buy it.

You dont say where you are living, or who owns the car - whose name is in the blue book - big issues.

Hi , thanks, I did speak to them as I am in chiang mai, they did say they are not really looking to buy fords atm but would sell it for me however I would rather directly sell it, it could be sat for months you see, paper work all checks out confirmed by ford, blue book etc all present, cheers

OK maye - use them as a back up then - good luck selling it.

Here is an an idea that might help.

Tell each dealer/place you go to that you are leaving on xxxx date (show ticket or something) and that you are going to sell it today to whoever gives you the best price - and that if no sale today, then you have already spoken to Expat Autos and you will leave the car there at Expat Autos who will sell it for you and then wire you the money less a fee.

What is it that you have that "Ford Thailand confirms", is that relating to the gearbox?

Your best bet is what henry2019 suggested but bear in mind that used car dealers are in the business of selling cars and will generally only pay wholesale prices, or less, for anything they want for stock or to flip.

Won't that idea will only help the dealers?  They'll all tell him that they're not interested because they will then "know" that, if they have any interest, they'll be able to buy it cheaper after "xxxx date" from Expat Autos.  Dealers aren't exactly falling over themselves to get old Fiestas.

maybe - but the idea is to show he is genuine and that he will take a decent price.

expat will hold it till it sells to public - they wont give it away to another dealer

yes fords are not a good option in thailand for resale - honda and toyota and of course mercs

If you really need to get rid of it asap ....  you should tell them you'll accept 120-130k ......

anything higher and your dreaming and you'll be stuck with it.

sorry, but that's the sad truth

Was this the results of your foray into buying and selling cars.

I seem to remember you asking how to price your car a while back. You came to Bangkok to buy What you said was a bargain.

When you said it was a fiesta that you were interested in buying I thought that was about the worst car that you could have chosen to start with.

Does it drive OK and is the gearbox ok and does it have the latest TCM software installed.

When it is time for you to go back to UK if you haven’t got rid give me a shout and I can take it off your hands

I can’t remember what you said it was, I think it was a fiesta S but I’m not sure. Ignore the mileage as it’s more than likely been clocked. You do have all the Ford Service paperwork?

Take the car and have it detailed...especially under the hood...

Go directly to car dealors...you will likely need to shop around to find the best buyer.

You can sell anything at the right price but unfortunately for you the right price for a ford fiesta here in Thailand is low. Their automatic gearboxes have a terrible reputation and many people wont go near them, choosing a Japanese model instead. Your one hope is finding someone who has a limited budget and can't afford one of the Japanese brands or you will have to sell it dirt cheap for say 80-120k baht

There is a large car auction on the Hang Dong road past Big C opposite side of the road no idea of how it works but maybe a last resort ????

ryanhull,

Maybe late in the day as I don't know when you are leaving but I sold three cars through bahtsold.

OK, Mine were desirable Toyota pickups but I always got the price I wanted or near enough. If you have left it really short of time, you could have a problem.

The truth is tha they are not worth what they are really worth after a couple of years.

Fords in particular,,,, try & get cash from a 2nd hand dealer  or give it to a friend

Those highly relevant details seem to be a secret.

If you search back for his topic on ‘How to price a car’, if I remember correctly he said he was going to Bangkok to buy a Fiesta, Bring it back and sell it. I understood that his Idea was to do some buying and selling.

I just can’t remember how many months ago...
