Coming to BKK soon, in the airport, is it likely that they will go through the content of the laptop? I heard rumors that they do it quit often nowadays.

Another rumor, is it true 7 eleven and other small shops don't use plastic bags anymore? So I need to bring my own plastic bags every time I go shop?

never heard about anybody that had his laptop checked, never happened to me. This is not America, this is Thailand where they generally never even check luggage when you come out... also never been checked or have seen people getting checked...

with regards to plastic bags, yes, most businesses try to stop giving them out, in 7-11, central, tops etc they sell you cloth bags for few cents, plastic bags in 7-11 is only for food the cook on site in the micro. Generally, just take a reusable bag with you, they (staff everywhere) will like you for that. Only on the markets, there is no ban on plastic bags

Time for the guard shacks to open back up at the entrances to Tesco and Big C parking lots.  I actually saw a family lifting a full grocery trollry into the back of their truck.

That is crazy, lol

Thailand is going to start scanning incoming luggage. They want to be able to see if there is taxable items entering the kingdom.

The 3 times we have bought water at 7/11, since the ban, we have had to ask them not to put in into the bag they started to put it in, and to keep the straws.

Most other major retailers are following the ban. But, if required, most will provide the usual plastic bags for a nominal charge. At a B2S, my wife bought two 8 baht pens and the cashier asked if she would like a bag for 10 baht!

The Tesco, Big-C and 7-11 near me no longer have plastic bags at checkout but still use them for meat and vegetables.  Tesco and Big C sell reusable bags at checkout, 39 baht was the cheapest I have found.  The 7-11 have plastic bags hidden in a drawer under the counter.  If you "pitch a fit"  and have a lot of things, they bag your purchases using them.

Credit where credit is due, Thais are very innovative

The trolly thing was common in Aus when they first banned bags, probably happened in most of the 74 countries that have introduced similar bag policies.

Content of your laptop - do it quite often ?  You need to upgrade your information sources otherwise you will start babbling about chemtrails sooner or later. But no, your porn is safe

FYO unless customs singles you out in the US then they never check laptop or luggage, never have. No need to thank, Free information for the ignorant.

------------------------------------------------------

Thailand however has bought (more) scanners and will start checking luggage in hopes of finding things to fine you for. Case in point, June 22 coming through CNX, they pulled aside a group of 8 or 10, eighteen year old students for a summer program, scanned luggage and going through by hande . I assume they checked them because if they found anything remotely questionable they could browbeat/threaten them into a payment as this was the least likely group who would be bringing anything illegal in. Picking and choosing their potential victims. It was sad and I assume; The Shape Of Things To Come.

Never been stopped or seen anyone stopped. If they pulled you up and wanted to see the contents on your laptop, "solly" no have password, in other words "F O" and that would have to be a 1st, as someone said in an earlier post, don't worry your bookmarks are safe ????

As for plastic bags, yes Thailand is moving in the right direction as it should be, do your part and get a few bags, other than plastic to do your shopping, the less plastic we throw away or burn, the better off our mother (planet) will be, see the the video video below, and then the link below that which has many video's within it, might help those of us that are looking for alternative ways, i.e. if we give a rat$ a$$.....with the link below the video being ingenious and would work very well here in Thailand where they don't have any recycle opportunities for plastic.

I think that is why there are so many guards walking around Makro car park.

oh wise man, so good to know.. that is why 90% of Europen business people - me included while I was working - enter the US with burner phones and empty laptos with the minimum on information needed.. we are of course all paranoid, the US is such a good and nice non-police state.l..

Its good to know that Euros safeguard their uh er, "information" on laptops and phones. Actually it a numbers game. If customs went through hard drives and phones they would have a line, not 200 meters long but a kilometer long. And they would need to hire 500 more customs workers, per major airport, if not more.

Speaking of 'information' ... those horny little euros ... transferring at Vienna airport, years back. Departure lounge area, (duty free too) big shop well stocked with DVD's magazines, vid clip downloads,  etc. I just found it so bizarre. You are leaving on vacation, then at the airport you discover, to your horror ... "honey did you bring the porn?"  -Shock, Gasp- "NO!"  "Wait, we can pick some up here at the airport."

BTW Vienna airport, quite nice, & obviously, a full service airport.

I wonder if they re-use them or just throw them away.

You should have grabbed a picture @wayned. It probably would have gone viral and made you famous.

The macro where I shop has one entrance/exit to the parking lot and the guard shack is manned issuing a card on entry and collecting it on departure.

They used to do that in Hua Hin too, but now the huts are empty and people just drive in and out. The guards are always walking around collecting trolleys...............( maybe they are selling them on the quiet....????)

Who knows, maybe those miseerable individuals who are frequently still to be found lurking by the front entrances of Tesco Lotus and Big C stores and who used to insist on all "foreign" bags being deposited at the baggage counter will eventually be redeployed for this purpose some time before the start of the 22nd Century, now that they no longer, in effect, have anything to do at their present location.????
