Renting A Quad Or Motorbike In Surin

Recommended Posts

Hiya,

Can anyone tell me where a decent place to get preferably a quad in Surin or if I had to, a motorbike? For one thing, I may not even be allowed to ride one legally as I don't have a motorcycle lic. but I figured if I mentioned it here, someone would set me straight on the legal issues regarding it. My gf has a motorbike and says she will take me anywhere I need to go but if I could get a bike myself, it would make things easier. What's the going rate for a motorbike too in Surin? I suppose I could rent a car too if it was a last resort option.

Contact The Farang Connection in Sulin (see ad above)

Totster :o

Totster I was being numb when I posted the question. I posted it and then had the thought....."I wonder if Farang Connection could tell me?" DUH

When I get to Surin, I plan on stopping at the Connection anyway and will ask them. I asked my Thai gf about the motorbike laws and with a lot of things I ask her, she says "Me no can say in English!"....so I will need to ask someone with good english skills to inform me. Thaanks for the reply though Totster.

If you are going to be in Thailand for a while and have a Non Immigrant visa you can get a Thai motorbike license quite easily. If you don't have a motorbike license from your home country you will need to take the test in Thailand, it's not difficult so I believe.

Then you will be legal and have no worries.

I will be coming back and forth every 3 months I suspect until I get my gf out of Thailand and though I did ride a motorcycle years ago, what does it involve getting a motorbike lic. now?

You will need to have..

  • Non Imm Visa
  • Medical Certificate
  • Proof of residence - Letter from Immigration or from your embassy
  • 2 photos per license

You can apply for the car license and motorbike license at the same time. If you hold a license in your home country, obtain an IDP and you won't need to take the tests.

Without an IDP you will need to take the written and practical tests (can't advise on these and I haven't taken them)

*IDP = International Driving Permit

Sounds like it would be easier to get my gf out of Thailand than it would be to get a motor bike lic....hahaha. Hmmmmmm, maybe letting my gf drive with me on the back isn't so bad after all......lol. I just wanted the lic. so I could putter around town without having to hire a baht bus/tuk tuk or any other means of local travel.

Also, you're up early to answer this.....couldn't sleep?? :D

We have a range of small bikes, as well as a couple of Phantoms to rent. Call in when you get here. As you have probably seen by now, we also have a few cars/pick-ups also.

In Pattaya they have started renting quads (4 wheelers) and I didn't know if anyone in Surin had any or if you did. They also had a little dune buggy type of car too.

As Totser mentioned the above, but will have to take a colour awareness test, perifervential, long sighted vision and brake reaction test for a car liscence and non immigrant 'O' visa. No chance of getting a quad, but if martin is not to busy, you should be able to aquire a motorbike to rent if you have the desired passport (200 baht per day) or deals for longer periods, better than having the the GF picking you up from the dark side after KEN has dropped you off!!!!! :o

I'll be in Surin in 2-3 weeks and will stop into the Farang Connection and see what is involved. I spoke to my Thai GF last night and she knows where the business is and she assures me she's a good motorbike driver and not a "Crazy Thai Woman" behind the handlebars of her motorbike....hahaha. I laugh everytime she refers to herself as a Crazy Thai Woman. But then again, I have had people ask me those very same words too....haha. I got a mixed reaction from her when I mentioned the Farang Connection, so should I be concerned???hahaha. Either way, I'll stop in and we can have a talk talk talk about a rental.....SO if you see a 6'5" skinny American come in, in say 3 weeks.....Just ak if my name is Chu Chu (my nickname) and it will be me.

You people are always so good at giving advise, thanks again...
