When do you need to test vehicle for tax renewal? 5 or 7 yo?

Featured Replies

Got a 2014 Isuzu pick up I bought new. Initial registration February 2015. Near time to renew my tax again and was wondering if this year I will need to have the vehicle tested for Tax renewal? I forget if it is 5 or 7 years old for a vehicle? Do they go off the year model of the vehicle or when it was first registered?

It’s nothing to do with TIT. Seven years from the date of first registration.

whoops sorry, someone has already said seven years

Well I've got 7 years of registration without a test.

So, TIT

Went to DLT (Udon Thani) this week with our 2013 Jazz and was told........... next year.

"Cars older than seven years and motorbikes older than five years need to undergo a safety inspection every year in order to be issued with a document called a TorRorOr, which certifies that the vehicle is roadworthy. No reminder is issued, but without the TorRorOr it is not possible to get the annual tax sticker once the car is over seven years "

So, you have to get your car tested once it has reached it's eighth birthday. Interestingly, and you would not believe it by the state of many vehicles on the roads:-

The test includes an emissions test, an engine check and a general roadworthiness test. It will include work on:

  • Lights
  • Indicators
  • Brakes
  • Steering
  • Tyres
  • Bodywork

Vehicles will also be checked to ensure that the chassis number, engine numbers and colour are identical to those in the Registration Book (Blue Book or Lem Tabian).

Yes,just done one for first time for our just 8 year registered Mitsubishi Lancer. Testing station just round the corner from the Drive Thru Licensing Office, yes really!, 200 baht. In theory covered all the above, in less than 10 minutes. No waiting. Straight in. The Drive thru 5 minutes and about a 10 minute queue. Kalasin city.
