PM not happy with proposed freeze of VOA for Chinese tourists

Featured Replies

What I cannot understand is that other countries Eg Uk Australia come here spend money in the country yet are treated like lepers'

I can for see  that the tourisms  industry in the future is going to suffer as other visitors are looking elsewhere to vacation where they are made to feel welcome

Sounds like he would be happy to change Visa On Arrival to Virus On Arrival?

  • If only Thailand hadn't spent the last two to three years discouraging multiple visits per year from Europeans then they could have relied on Euro tourism but that's definitely in terminal decline the

Thailand, through extreme myopia, put itself into this position. By putting all of it's eggs in the basket of China, they opened themselves up to a tourism and economic tragedy of immense proportions. It was an inane decision, made by people with little to no experience in tourism, hired based on cronyism, or nepotism, and entirely without merit. When you reach for the bottom of the barrel, this is what you get.

The Thai people are in for a world of hurt unfortunately. Hopefully something good will come out of this mess.

So now we have it from the horses mouth,,,,,,,,

Money comes before the welfare & safety of all "his" Thai people.

Disgusting man

Is he aware what other nations such as Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Oz, UK and US are doing just to name a few? I hope that answer is no.

How do "other countries Eg Uk Australia come here spend money in the country yet are treated like lepers'"

I don't need a VOA and get 15 days. Chinese require one.

As far as I am aware, we get charged the same prices for everything, treated same as everyone and don't feel treated "like a leper".

Is there something?

I couldn’t have said it better myself.  Thanks.

It all feels very strange that the Thai army fought the communists in the 60s and 70s and now they care more for them than their own people. Putting the country at risk is surely a national security issue?

I wonder if they've thought they can stop VOA now and start it again when things are safer?

Suspending the arrivals of the Chinese for a few months won't have anything like the impact than if this things spreads and no one comes here. Short sighted thinking. Not to mention the impact on hospitals.

He doesn't seem to be aware full stop.

Thailand is the second most touched country after China.

Does he realize many tourists from other countries will cancel their trip because of that?

Mongolia and Vietnam are closing their borders and they are poorrer than Thailand.

A Thai taxi driver has spread the virus. And they keep waiting a miracle.

The situation would be comical if it wasn't tragic for the locals.

Any travel advisories issued by any governments yet?

Just want to know where I can get masks that are capable of blocking virus locally. I'm on the mrt daily. No, that's not n95-100 3M masks. Thanks.

The last masks available seem to be the gas masks available at some hardware stores. Then you'll need to find HEPA filters and DIY replacements for the activated carbon canisters they use. I bet they'll be sold out within hours too.

The solution is to walk instead of using public transport. You probably wil develop asthma because of the air pollution doing that. There's no winning at the moment.

This is sensible advice although the website is pro establishment and loaded with bias, fake news.

I don't know Facebook has said it will ban anything considered fake news so if the commies or prayut See's something they don't like they'll just tell Facebook to block it

Australia has advised its citizens to avoid travel to China, and has banned travellers from China from entering for two weeks.

The powers in charge are definitely not playing with a full deck IMHO. Who in their right mind puts all their eggs in one basket. The Chinese were ramping up tourism so the Thai's alienated westerners ???  You never know what is going to happen. It makes 0 sense to me.  Crazy!

Prayut puts brake on proposal to suspend visa on arrival for Chinese

  • February 1, 2020

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has put on hold a proposal by Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to suspend visa on arrival for Chinese tourists fearing it would have a negative impact.

Government Spokeswoman Naruemol Pinyosinwat said the prime minister asked Anutin to consult with other government agencies concerned, especially the Tourism Ministry, on the pros and cons of such measure.

Anutin made the proposal during a meeting of the economic affairs ministers  to assess the impact of the virus outbreak on the Thai economy.

it might hurt the feeling of Chinese tourists

But we don't mind hurting our own citizens. Western countries and Japan are starting to restrict Chinese tourists; obviously, some other countries care more about their own people than the feelings of those from other country's. This isn't about feelings, this is about helping to stop a medical problem from traveling worldwide at greater numbers

I was referring to a post about banning travel to Thailand, not China.

Just give them the damn citizenship if you love the chinese so much. I have worked and lived here for 10 years, paid taxes but I'm still treated like scum by the immigration. The chinese come here disrespecting the rules of the country and bringing viruses and they are more welcome than me. This is driving me nuts, really!

A couple of years ago a 200 year old Chinese boat was dug out of the mud in a creek about 15km from where I live suggesting the Thais have a long relationship with China in fact the entire Thai population is said to have emigrated from China and so have always been a part of China so you statement is true that in 20 years Thailand will still be a part of China!

this is propaganda Chinese nonsense, the Chinese kingdoms were tiny up until 700 years ago, when they took over Mongolia, thailand/siam had the lavo kingdoms and migration of Asian cultures from India/Sri Lanka and java going back 2000 years, it’s why the language of this land is Sanskrit/Pali and not mandarin, and why most of the culture, religion and ceremonies are from India/Aryan countries and not Chinese, granted the last 150 years has seen the influence and invasion of China, but this thai tribe nonsense of people from south China migrating down to first inhabit thailand 1000 years ago is hogwash, and also people in Tibet, East Turkistan have been invaded by Han Chinese and never regard themselves as Chinese, Siam in Sanskrit means land of dark skin, there is a reason for that

Just to give this discussion some balance ...........

"Travel restrictions can cause more harm than good by hindering info-sharing, medical supply chains and harming economies," the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.

The WHO recommends introducing screening at official border crossings. It has warned that closing borders could accelerate the spread of the virus, with travellers entering countries unofficially.

Ok ............... crack on ...........

Thanks to the overall pro-ChiCom policymaking, the regime has dug themselves into a very deep hole.  Only a complete shift or regime charge can change things.
