PHUKET: Cherng Talay Police Chief Col Peerachart Pomboonmee is urging all people at Layan Beach to be careful of dangerous objects in the sand after a regular beachgoer stepped on an old syringe.

The man was preparing to play volleyball on the beach near the jetty for the local fishing boats yesterday (Feb 19) when he stepped on something hard, which he at first thought was a hard shell. However, on checking it was confirmed that he stepped on an old syringe.

“He was shocked and scared. Because this thing is an old syringe which was old and the cover is actually broken,” The Phuket News was told.

Did the needle penetrate his skin? Did he go to the hospital to be checked for any number of diseases, HIV being just one. This story is lacking pertinent details.

The consequences of which could easily be deadly.

Nothing new, happens all over the world .Some places worse than others.????????

I think the whole point was not to let your guard down and be observant. I'm sure it was more of a warning, but should have included all the steps he should have taken considering the circumstance.

Makes those stinky turds seem rather harmless..ouch

HIV is not the issue here, as no fresh blood, and HIV does not survive long outside of ideal conditions; Hep"C" lives outside the body for long periods. The story said syringe not syringe and needle

No problem if no penetration of skin

Exactly, I am glad this is presented as being big news.

I have just seen the photograph, that is not a syringe, that is a needle.

Where are the gloves on the person handling it?

It's not, it's just a news item, not big, not small, just news.
