Came across another "meet and greet" opportunity. At the local Big C, spotted a filthy guy, wearing a bush hat, shorts, and a hiking vest, not shirt, just the vest. Judging by what looked like tire tracks streaking down the back, I assumed that he sleeps under some bridge somewhere.

9 pages and I still have no idea what a "Normal Farang" is, so I have little chance in finding one if I even wanted to.

There should be a list of what is NOT normal so as the field can be narrowed.

1. Those that are obsessed (more than 10 minutes per day) with Facebook, they are out for a start.

Think a normal human is, being a bit crackers, easily influenced, habitual, and not forgetting the trait of most of the planets creatures, a leg over...????

In Thailand there is good reason why the employer and  those of  higher social positions  do not fraternize with the  service personnel or those of a lower social position. The social divides; differences in education and manner of living are too great to allow for cohesion. There will be polite and respectful interaction, but this civility must not be interpreted as anything more. When a farang  hangs around with the bargirl, or the shop clerk it tells other Thais that the farang has no social status and need not be respected. Thailand  has a social hierarchy and defined pecking. When foreign residents deviate, they are socially ostracized and  looked down upon, whether they recognize it or not.

 

Appreciably, if a foreigner occupies a low social status and lives on the fringes of society  to begin with, it does not matter. However, for a large number of foreigners it does and it makes a big difference in how one is treated.

I've never met anyone who was normal. It's a myth. Scratch under the surface and you'll find someone who is anything but normal. It's a facade we put on to make life easier.

If one didn't particularly like farangs, but could tolerate them and wanted to make a bundle, get a house, car etc, marrying an elderly farang not too long for the world would seem like a logical thing to do.
