Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday (March 3) approved the latest list of countries and territories at high risk of the Covid-19 infection: Japan, Germany, South Korea, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Taiwan, France, Singapore, Italy, and Iran. 

 

All returnees from these nations and territories must self-quarantine for 14 days, he said. 

 

The Covid-19 disease was declared as a dangerous communicable disease on February 24, according to the Communicable Disease Act 2015.

New anti-virus measures for foreign visitors and Thais returning from high risk areas

Thailand’s Public Health Ministry, via a ministerial announcement, has designated nine countries and two territories as high risk areas for COVID-19, and visitors to Thailand from these areas will be subject to 14-day home quarantine and will have to adhere to health related follow-up measures.

 

The nine countries, defined by Thailand as “high risk”, are Japan, South Korea, Germany, China, Taiwan, France, Singapore, Italy and Iran, and the two territories are Macau and Hong Kong.

 

Ministerial announcements specify the following four measures for enforcement:

• Visitors and Thai citizens returning from the high risk areas will be subject to 14-days home quarantine, even if they are cleared of the disease, unless they have permission from health officials.
• Those who do not have a permanent residence or lodging in Thailand are required to show officials, upon arrival, evidence of where officials can locate them during the 14-day period.

Okay, now, can someone sane on this forum can explain why they continue to focus on "returnees" ?

 

What about the people from China, Japan, SK, Italy, France etc... who arrive in Thailand, for tourism, business or whatever other reasons ?

 

It's insane.

 

So if a Thai visits France, and then come back : 14 days quarantine (fair enough)

But a french guy, who lives in France, and who arrives in Bangkok to spend 2 weeks holidays... what do we do ?

 

From a statistical point of view : the french citizen represents a higher risk to be infected.

 

Compared to the thai tourist who just spend 1 week in Europe.

 

The low level of this pseudo governement, is hurting. Nothing less.

I don't know why Taiwan is on the list when the cases are less than Thailand.

 

They should add USA and Spain to the list instead.

I can't tell from the OP article whether the self-quarantine rules by country are only meant to apply to Thais coming back from those countries, tourists arriving from those countries, or both?

OK I apologize (to the minister).

 

But it's the fault of sxxxty report of Nation ! They are talking ONLY about "returnees".

 

So to summarize : this list applies to THAI people who return AND to FOREIGNERS who visit Thailand.

But as usual... there is twist.

A Thai who comes back from a small trip in South Korea : 14 day quarantine (but no law to impose, like the Watchman told us)....

 

A South Korean who comes to Thailand for a small trip : "Leave us your phone number".

No, it would be... show us some evidence of where you're planning to stay, or, face the prospect of being sent back to your home country.

Why you don't understand ?

 

I arrive in Thailand, from South Korea. I show a booking.com reservation.

 

Immigration gives me my 30 days.

 

(Admit that this is the case of MOST tourists.)

 

And then ?

 

AND THEN ?

 

I DO WHAT I WANT.

 

I can go out, go BTS, shopping malls... I don't have any quarantine to respect.

 

I can share my virus (if i am infected, but asymptomatic) with the whole freaking BKK.

 

So I repeat for the X times : it doesn't make any sense.

 

-A Thai who comes back, without symptoms : "please 14 days quarantine, stay home" (but not mandatory... first twist)

 

-A South Korean who visits Thailand, without symptoms : "please show me your hotel booking"

 

Okay ?

 

Is that clear now ?

 

I mean it's enough to deal with the BS coming from thai officials, the pathetic reporting of Nation and other thai medias... but now even on TV.... It's exhausting.

 

Asymptomatic carriers are the ennemy. The guy who disembarks from the airplane with 41 degrees fever, and coughing.... is easy meat. We don't care about him.

The OP news report here is a NEW policy. Those kinds of restrictions didn't exist before for Thailand arrivals, not even for China-origin arrivals. But now, supposedly, they will.
