I am expecting delivery next week of a mobile phone cover from Lazada which is being shipped from China. Any sensible tips on precautions I should take when it arrives. I would appreciate serious answers with the comedians on TV finding another topic to display their unlimited talent.

keep in isolation, by going Hands Free by BlueTooth?

but really... is it a leather case, or a shiny silicon?

 - applying Gel would end up with 2 different outcomes to each materials

Wipe the package down with a medical tissue. ( Alcohol based )

Yet, I have read reports it can survive on surfaces for up to 9 days.

They don't know exactly yet for SARS-CoV-2 but SARS can stay active for 9 days if suspended in a liquid at 4C in a laboratory. It depends on temperature and humidity and it's a lot less than 9 days in normal condition.

Make sure you wear a mask and gloves when you receive the package from the delivery guy.

That will eliminate most of your risk - seriously.

I agree. I worry more about the delivery man. They also ask to sign for the package on their dirty phone. I always carefully open the package then wash my hands. I don't use a mask because the risk is low and in theory you need to discard the mask each time so it's not practical. I usually get one or more delivery per day...

the cover itself is probably untouched by human hands.  made in an automated factory, packaged in sealed/zip-lock bag by robots.  the guys picking the baggies and taping the boxes in the warehouse will be wearing masks and gloves.  but then the package will be going through multiple delivery nodes and air terminals before reaching you.

dispose of the packaging.  put the cover in the sun for a couple days.  wash your hands.

Dont burst the bubble wrap it is packed in, that s Chinese air in them bubbles you know!!!

From China, postage is about 15 days, sometimes 20. It will not survive that long. Open the package as normal.
