For all its faults and poverty and un-western ways, Thailand is winning.

Now if u want to see an outbreak or spike let all these workers in Restaurants, Clubs, bars etc (with strong immune systems who might of already built up their immunity to it) go back to their villages then see how that plays out!

I can't believe this is even being considered an option. Govt MIGHT be able to pull this off for a few days or a couple weeks, but if it's longer or indefinite, forget about it.

What makes you think management of many larger establishments will not make the decision themselves to close, in order to minimize expenses?  Eg.  salaries, electric, water etc.

 

We have seen this already with the hotels catering for the Chinese.  

 

As far as property is concerned, which includes commercial property, just like any recession / depression, the rich buy up cheap property from the people who go broke.  

 

If the Government does force closures, you can bet that wealthy Thai's will profit from it.

I dont know if the virus survives in a hot pot. 5 to 10 in a filthy room? Wow, I just can't conjure that up in my mind.

 

I have slept in the poorest of poor villages in Thailand, on the floor, bucket shower, all that....never felt filthy.

 

A mere 10,000 thb a month each if made by 4 bargirls, would get them nice digs, and still plenty to send home and save, and they make more then that.

 

I suppose some horrible brothel somewhere with horrible stories behind it exists, but Thai people are relatively happy, fed, and leading unimpoverished lives.

That includes bargirls.

 

My wife's sister, who visits often, and also lives in Bangkok lives with friend in a pad about 2k a month. Not my standards, but it's not filthy, and she makes far less then a bargirl, as a seamstress.

 

But I have been in some apartments in the USA, where I didn't want to touch anything. And no bumgun...yuck!!

For a month maximum it might work, but I think the global trend seems to be to shutdown the world for roughly that length of time, definitely not for too long.

 

What you have to understand though is that, Thai officials are obviously getting their cues from higher-ups at the WHO and UN and other agencies. If the WHO felt the need to shut down the world for 6 months or longer (unlikely) Thailand will be forced to follow suit and Pattaya will have to adapt. Besides, it won't just be Pattaya suffering, everyone across the world will be.

I think people have bigger fish to fry. Pattaya is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

With USA and Europe closing down, you will see job losses like never before. Flying to Pattaya, getting drunk and paying a hooker is top of normal peoples priority list at the moment.
