Thai media reported that staff and pupils of a popular English teacher were in shock after a teacher was killed around 1 am on Route 317 near the Tesco Lotus in Wang Somboon, Wang Nam Yen, Sa Kaeo.

Pavlo D. - from the Ukraine - was an English teacher for Primary 5 pupils in the English Program at Mitrasamphan Withaya municipal school.

A nearby resident suggested to 77kaoded that the victim had been with friends and was crossing the road on his way to a 7-Eleven at the PTT gas station when he was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene.

The victim suffered severe head trauma and was dragged 30 meters down the highway.

Wang Nam Yen police think the vehicle involved is a pick-up that was carrying agricultural produce. It suffered a smashed windshield.

They are appealing for information from the public including private CCTV footage that may help in their inquiry.

Meanwhile there were many tears and candles as the body of the teacher was transferred from the Wang Nam Yen hospital for an autopsy at the Police Hospital yesterday.

Staff were visibly upset as they were faced with the tragic cremation of a popular colleague from their school.

If the Olympics get cancelled due to virus then Thais wont be happy. Guaranteed a gold medal for the hit and run race.

What did the friends see?

The post quotes "had been" with friends which infers at an earlier time [past perfect tense]... not at the time of the accident

The time is probably pertinent. You go out on Thai roads after the hours of darkness and you really are taking your life into your hands. Unfortunately, charm and cute good looks are no defense.

A country full of cowards

RIP this guy.

Hope karma gets the scumbag driver.

One thing amazes me, why autopsy, pretty obvious cause of death is Thai related.

This happens to Thais everyday. So those of you complaining about not receiving "equal treatment" here should find solace in this article.

Ukrainian English teacher? Must be one of the few that actually knows the language. RIP.

RIP, a very sad way to go. You had your life in front of you.

My Condolences to the family and friends.

Going around on the roads in Thailand after dark is dangerous. Always keep your wits about you and be careful.

Going around on the roads here is dangerous at any time day or night, not just after dark.

Yes a good idea keeping your wits about you,  but no matter what you do, it will not stop the crazy idiots hitting you.

And judging from his photo he was probably a very experienced teacher also.
