As an assist to the general readership in and around the area would it be an idea to let people know what bars and restaurants have closed for the time being.

'Should' be easier to list the ones that are still open!

In some places they seem to have come up with "a cunning plan" of taking the tables and chairs off of the road turning off the lights and music..but still open.

Radio news this morning advised that all places required to close would get a letter today. I think punishments are pretty harsh so I doubt that many will be breaking the law, less so advertising the fact on here and similar sites.

Standard practice for years. Next step is serving Heinekin in coffee cups. Air-conditioned bars will pssst you as you walk by and invite you in and lock the door behind you. All good clean fun on religious days etc etc but seriously...

Some 'bars' seem to be confused and think its an alcohol ban.

Letters were dished out last night by the DOPA.

People will do just about anything when they have no money......Plenty of bars will be open....The law does not jack in times of need...

Why would bars be in need more than other businesses? 

Two "resraurants closed yesterday in Suk Soi 4 & a massage place closed in front of our eyes 

by police early this afternoon.

Nothing to do with alcohol, it is people congregating that they are trying to stop

Having owned and managed several bars and restaurants let me assure you the economics are very different to what most people realise. 

To put it simply... when a bar opens at 6pm all sales from the time they open until perhaps 1am go towards simply covering the daily operating costs, then once those costs are covered for the day only then do the proceeds of sales start counting as profit, so a bar might only make money during it's last hour of operation for the day.   When the police shut bars early it often result in them running at a loss. 

Not all bars are money printing machines.  

Ok honey we will open a bar in Pattaya and make pots of cash.

Nobody has thought about that before.

Come on .....We all know it is doomed before you open.

I take it you are talking about Pattaya......But I suppose it is the same all over Thailand......

Expat prices do not attract Thais.....so ..no Expats or tourists...No, or very little business.

Just go to a restaurant, buy an occasional sandwich and you can drink.  No "entertainment" though.

for the experience. and so they can warn others to that fact. 

and because some are told it is a 'good idea', usually by the seller or a loved one who thinks they are a money printing machine and want to be their own boss.

Some of the bigger bars other option was a Laundry 

We're in the middle (or more likely start) of a pandemic and people are looking for crowded bars in which to spend their time? 500 people died in Italy yesterday, and the way Thailand is handling this outbreak, it might soon get worse here. The best advice is to stay far away from bars and clubs. Obviously the people who will hang out in bars under these conditions are careless and carefree (and drunk) and not the type you should be close to.

Because those people don't understand the economics of business, let alone the economics of running a bar.

For most of us, our introduction to Thailand was bar related and we had some great times and met new friends (and gals).

Hi, don't drink and only visit  bars when taking overseas friends round. Why can;t you guys just go to a 7-11 or package store buy all the beer/liquor you want and sit at home  watch Netflix?  If you are ex-pats and have been living here for any length of time don't you have the phone number or Line contact of any of the bar girls you have hooked up with if you need some companionship ?

I know of one, who bought a beer bar for their 'newish' gf for around 8000 gbp, but didn't worry about the 1M baht key money due in 4 months after that. it lasted 4 months and lost 25k a month for the 4 months it was open. end result was a loss of 8000 gbp and 100k baht. why renew the key money to lose 25k a month. yes it was a sh8t bar near the toilets near other music deafening bars, abso no hope. but guys on holiday do what guys on holiday do.....

soz about the 2 currencies (gbp and B) but its the numbers I remember.

Living A dream .

Owners and licencees face jail of one year and or a 100,000 baht fine according to the article in Pattaya News section this morning. That should be enough to deter most.

no way you could run a bar as you described, something very wrong with that business model - surely you knew that before getting involved
