Virus spread rate in Bangkok higher than global average

The spread of Covid-19 infection in Bangkok and its vicinity has exceeded the average rate globally with one infected individual passing on the virus to three and a half persons, said Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Public Health Ministry.

The situation in Bangkok is worrisome as the spread is wider and more intense than in other provinces, he said , citing the three southern border provinces where the infection rate is one to two other persons.

He said the government's work-from-home measure had to be stricter by making an announcement of emergency holidays, but the public must follow instructions for a positive result.

The number of Covid-19 patients in Thailand has reached 827, making Thailand the 31th most-affected country.

Perhaps that could be put down to more people per square metre, very little chance of 2 metre separation and not enough testing facilities.

Common sense #101 could tell you that. Just look at the Skytrain and its platforms and the public buses for crowding.

... don't get all logical now!

Also maybe that stadium clustermuck cranked up the rate a bit ... ?!

Are they saying that Bangkok's spread rate is greater than the rest of the world or every other country in the world?Sounds like there trying for another excuse for their poor management of the situation. With possibly up to 50-70% of infections being asymptomatic makes it nigh impossible for any country to try and guess the infection rate or the death rate.

The number diagnosis will double every three days from here on in, in all regions until measures for treatment and quarantine take effect

The poor and people with comorbidities are the most vulnerable along with frontline health care workers

Bear in mind, that it appears that 90 % infected recover, but the recovery period is questionable if Thailand follows other countries rates.

so much for 30 degrees of heat killing it off then

Always easy to comment with hindsight.

High heat and high humidity slows the spread, it doesn't kill off the virus.

It surtenly slow down brains for those who is supposed to handle this situation!

And one infected person in average,  transmit the virus to 3, calculate the scenario if there was one infected in every 3. buss on their way out to the districts.

It was pretty clear from the very beginning that that couldn’t have been true, since the temperature in the human body is well over 30 degrees.

With the transmission rate of 3.5, if we apply the classic epidemiology formula of 1-(1/R0) where R = transmission rate, unmitigated transmission, which is what we have seen in Bangkok, will result in infection of 71.4% of the population of the city.

Wuhan managed to bring its transmission rate down to 1.5.

Which has just vacated Bangkok on-mass to go back to home provinces.. watch the numbers spiral nationwide next week.

I read statistics. which I have been unable to verify,  in a Thai forum comparing capacity of Thai Healthcare system to the Italian one.

Italy. 3.4 hospital beds per 1000 head of population and 4.1 doctors.

Thailand. 2.4 hospital beds per 1000 head of population and 0.8 doctors.

I imagine the comparison of ICU beds and ventilators would look worse but Thailand probably has more nurses than Italy. The stats in the Thai provinces must be much worse than Bangkok, particularly outside the cities. In the countryside serious cases have to be sent to hospitals In the provincial capitals.

In Italy and Spain medical professionals are accounting for 10-15% of confirmed cases.

Don't forget that Mo Chit only serves the north and north east. There is also the southern terminal at Sai Tai Mai, Taling Chan and the Eastern terminal at Ekkamai on Sukhumvit road.

And the railway station and passenger vans to closer provinces.
