The virus is real. The current economic crash is real. The consequences of this economic crash are yet to be seen. My feeling is that this will not turn out well for ordinary people.

In the 2018-2019 Flu season, 400.000 people where diagnosed with the flu, 9400 people died. Total population about 17 million.

 

It was actually declared an Epidemic at the time but nothing was done to contain this Corona Virus.

The difference between influenza and COVID-19 is the R0 factor and the morbidity rate. Simply two different beasts. That is not to say that I agree with the approach that many governments (especially my own in the US) are taking. The measures seem too drastic and not well thought out. I feel that they are simply "falling in line" due to a complete lack of preparation and planning. It will be very interesting to see how the countries who took different approaches come out of this on the other side. I suspect that those like the US, who went into complete lock down, are going to look a little foolish compared to those who took a more measured approach.

You are absolutely correct that many banks and financial institutions were beginning to show cracks. And it is clear that the recent "rescue bill" in the US has provisions for this. The other very interesting aspect of that bill is the use of the terms "e-dollar" and "e-wallet", which I found to be quite surprising. And, of course, the provision for beneficial tax treatments for "real estate developers", which will benefit Trump's friends and family. As always, Congress leveraged a desperate population to pass legislation that would otherwise be impossible, throwing (quite needed) crumbs to the average joe, while piling on the cream for those "connected".
