The motorway service stations did have a separate area for truckers to park and eat, which was very nice of them but the food did not really match up to the original Transport Cafe. :sad: 

 

Unfortunately as the motorway system grew more and more truckers were using them and by passing the old cafes so they just sort of faded away :sad:

 

The pub open in the middle of the night was in the area of the main markets in the City of London. These markets were open at night to handle and distribute produce coming from all over so the pub had special license to open for the night workers.

 

Of course you didn't have to be a night worker to get a drink if you really wanted :whistling:

 

The main markets were Billingsgate (fish) and Smithfields (meat). These markets have now moved further out of town to ease congestion in the city and the original buildings turned into fancy shopping malls.
