Everyone likes a laugh even those who believe this crud.

Most certainly, those that believe may well wont to explain how they have a "correspondent" on the scene?

Yup..Wuhan tentatively opened yesterday..but the intrepid Daily Mail team (apprised beforehand) rushed to the scene to discover the first bat....splendid stuff.

I think it was Fred Nerk from Parramatta who when questioned once said of the Australian bogan, the English working class and American rednecks "Feed 'em <deleted>-it's the only thing they know."

What strikes me the most.... the SARS epidemic happened in 2003.

And nobody ever bothered to produce a vaccine?

They say it takes a minimum of 1 to 1.5 years for a vaccine to be ready and safe for use for humans. Well, 17 years and no vaccine for SARS??

And with Covid-19 so close to SARS....

If the pharmaceutical industry did their job, we would have never heard of Covid-19.

You'd like the media to be controlled by the government like in China would you?

Mailonline is the world's most widely read English language news website so if this article was inaccurate the Chinese government would be screaming for an apology by now but there's not a word from them.

SARS died out by itself so no profit to be made from developing a vaccine.

They did try.

In 2004 they made  a vaccine. Gave it to test mice and they produced antibodies. All good.

They then have them SARS.  They all died horribly.

It happened yonks ago with human tests on another virus on children when all the kids given it died horribly. That one passed animal tests.

The issue was an over reaction where the immune system kills you. You die horribly in pain.

With some viruses you can't create vaccines. That was SARS-COV-1. SARS-Cov-2 its cousin may also be hard or impossible to make a vaccine for. We simply don't know.

They do their job very well, they make HUGE amounts of money! Some people are foolish enough to think that they are there to look after your health and care for you, dream on!

Surprised they haven't come up with a wonder drug like "TamiFlu" remember that massive con job!

Stand by for the next "miracle" cure, deal with the side effects later, they will have a drug for that as well! ????

I guess you missed the memo on coronavirus variants and strains. Even the 'common' annual flu vaccination is 'adjusted' yearly to counter the strain that's predicted by ongoing research to be most prevalent during the coming flu season.

Influenza isn't the same as SARS which isn't the same as MERS which isn't the same as Covid-19 which won't be the same as the next one.

wouldn't be surprised if the wet markets re-open.  people gotta eat and only the large supermarket chains have meat sections.

the wet market in our suburb a couple blocks away closed for less than a week, with the meat/fish section closed for 3 weeks.  new building replaced the old market last year, so actually pretty clean.  the pork section isn't too bad despite most venders having no refrigerators.

have not been to the main city wet market since before the virus.  wasn't bad by chinese standards, compared to the absolute filth i've seen in some mainland markets.  we're near the ocean, lotsa live sea creatures in aquariums, and deceased fish and squid kept on ice.  no bats, but frogs and turtles and eels.  also no dog, not eaten by locals.  there are a few small restaurants run by guangxi folk, but they raise their own stock for other guangxi 'expats.'

i'll try and find time to stop by this week to check conditions.  maybe can stop in some village markets next weekend while cycling.

I think "wet" markets will probably be eradicated.China will be forced to do so as will,of course,Thailand and neighbouring states.

However,I am sure that there was no Daily Mail team in Wuhan either yesterday or today.

My neighbours eat lizards, grasshoppers, bugs of indeterminate description and maggots.

I had a nice eel on the weekend.

they will in the larger cities.  higher incomes and growing middle class demand better hygiene.  in theory anyway.....don't expect to dine with doctors or bankers and not see them spitting bones on the floor!

in the cities, the farmers' markets will still be there, but with enforced sanitation rules.  if not refrigerators, at least styrofoam boxes with ice.

don't expect any changes in the villages.  went fishing with a family in yunnan, lovely lake next to a village in the mountains.  on one side farmers bathing their water buffaloes as they (the buffalo, not the farmers) poo'ed in the lake.  on the other side, the villages outhouse dumped directly into the water.  why aren't you eating the fish, they asked.  allergic to fish, i lied.  then there was the brothel in guangxi that served fried dog penis, but that's a story for another day.

My issue is this. Most countries after this is over should seriously look at their essential needs as a country. These items need to be produced and stock piled domestically. When global supply chains break down or more to the point when the country producing the essential items needs it for istelf then its game over for the wanna be purchaser.

The only way to punish China is to kick it in the nuts, financially. Sadly i cannot see this happening.

No one believes what China says. Their economy is teetering on the edge of financial collapse and has been for some time. A swift kick right now would finish them financially and then the ordinary people inside China would do the rest and end the rule of the CCP.

Brilliant post!

I once was part of a team that studied a cholera epidemic north of Mumbai..same sort of scenario.

My Thai family still ate off the common plate and passed those plastic bags of coke around willy nilly when I met them.

However they are learning..

(I once watched a Thai matron cut up papaya in what was,in reality, the family toilet)
