Road tax

Featured Replies

I have read on here there is an  exemption to renew your expiring driving license up to 15 days after the closing of the emergency decree. Is that the same for road tax.? I assume you can only renew it at the DLT.

If the car is less than 7 years old, or the motorcycle less than 5 years, then you can renew it at 7/11.

And where do you get the windscreen sticker. I have already paid the por or bor.

The 7/11 clerk should ask you for your address, the sticker from the DLT comes by mail.

The compulsary insurance which you need to be able to pay the tax can also be purchased in 7/11.

I forgot to mention that you need a Thai person with Thai ID card (they have to put a Thai id card in the card reader) to be able to buy it. This can be any person, doesn't have to be the owner of the vehicle.

That would be expecting something to have been thought through to the very end. Although no doubt you will receive Instructions on how to make your own out of cloth. But i can't imagine, under current circumstances, the police will be their normal super vigilante selves.

DLT also have drive-thru windows now, dont know if thats available in all areas though. It takes literally minutes and the sticker is instant.

Thanks Jack for your reply. The DLT  office is closed UFN. So they will not be sending anything by mail anywhere. I have already paid the por or bor. I expect we will have to wait till they reopen to get the sticker.

Thanks Charlie. Maybe they are shut only for license renewals.

Yes, to my knowledge because of the people factor waiting queing etc the driving licence applications etc have been suspended.

The drive thru however does not fall in the social distancing etc which explains there continued operation. Seems logical, (although that doesnt usually figure in Thailand) ????

Its worth a "drive-by" to find out though eh.

Pattaya DLT (near Regents school) was open last Tuesday for everything other than DLs. I was surprised that it was reasonably busy.

Good job I went there before the lock-down fiasco.........

That is consistent with the wording on their website.

The offices are closed for all services related to driving licenses.

I don't know whether they handle tax/insurance payment as usual.

If you want to avoid to visit the office there are many insurance agents and test stations which could help you.
