Got a relief package from Thai Army yesterday

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Just wanted to share a positive experience that I made this weekend. The Thai army on behalf of the King came to my subsoi two nights ago and distributed a relief package to every household (including myself). While its of course not enough to live for a month, it will definitely help most Thais to get through the month.

FYI: I'm living with my dogs in in BKK, in a house with a garden. My area quite local, i.e. I am the only farang here on my subsoi and most people are older Thai's/families. I don't really talk to any of them, but I always smile when I see someone on the street.

Anyways the reason I wanted to share this is that while I've also had some sobering experiences over the last couple of months, I do think that this gesture was very nice from both of my neighbors (who made me aware that I should put out a table so they can leave the package there; first time they've come over to talk to me) and also the government for not excluding me per se (I am living alone as mentioned). Has anyone else heard of this/gotten a package like this?

sorry a bit rusty doing these forum threads; haven't posted in ages. Just sharing this as I don't think they will do this in condos on Suk 11.

Used to get these when Yingluk was PM and we were one of those affected by the flooding. Got several in fact but without any postcard picture of her , mores the pity.

That is nice. Never knew that they came at houses.

On TV I always see them gathered at a location with a lot chairs.

Hope they will come in our area too, many older people here alone their children are out country and many others here who were selling fruits on street on nights for their living and not to forget the wooden houses on occupied land (Those without official status) of which most are working as Win for the mooban, but now as everyone stays home..

Mixed community here.

What did they send you a blow up dingy.

Would have come in handy when we had to evacuate the village. We had to climb the 6ft boundary wall and wade 500 meters through waist deep dirty water to the evacuation point.

As the wife put it :

All right for you. Your tackle is on the outside and easy to clean. Our tackle is on the inside and doesn't need being washed out with this filthy water.

( not an exact translation but words to that effect. )

My daughter got free food delivered from CP 7-11,

a whole frozen duck and pack of crab sticks.

She was denied the 5 K p.m. off the Government,

because they said she has a business (she does not)

and is out of work hotel receptionist.

I’m in the UK (West Sussex) and I got a relief package today as well.

As some generous soul passed on the lurgy to me – totally free of charge, bless their cotton socks – I can’t leave the house to go shopping, but there is a huge swarm of volunteers who deliver shopping to housebound “fuddy-duddies”.

I phoned my shopping list in and a very lovely (elderly) lady drove up, put the bags at my door and stood back when I opened it.

She explained to me that this was her first “assignment” because there are far more volunteers than recipients to go round!

The warmth and spirit of those people who put themselves out to help others almost brought me to tears.

Mind you, she did query whether a ten pack of Fosters and 40 Players* were “essential supplies” ????

* That wasn’t the complete list – I needed Yorkshire Gold teabags and bogroll ????

A free pass was always going to be popular

Let's be honest. If this prevented someone from going to the grocery once or twice, it is just that much better for preventing the spread of the virus. And for those who are truly "shut in", this is a huge help. A case where the military/government has done something smart and positive. Credit where credit is due.

There is no "free pass".

People are allowed to go outside to collect medicines, grocery supplies and for healthy exercise. None of which I am prepared or permitted to do as I may pass my lurgy - totally free of charge - to some other unsuspecting innocent soul.

She is simply a caring lady who is helping people who are stuck.

Lucky you. We were flooded for 5 weeks and got nothing from Yingluck or the Shin cronies except for her and the bureaucrats lame excuses.

Thank you for sharing.  It's great to see some areas are getting a few things to help people through this crisis, whether it's the King or the elected government.

elected government.

???? Lol.

In Jomtien yesterday afternoon, at several places, people were distributing free bags of food to those in need, which is a lot of people to judge by the queues. Nothing fancy and official like in the OP, just a plastic bag with, I'm guessing a ready-prepared meal in it.

Damn nice of them! And here we were saying the "upper crust" had forgotten us!!

I personally think it is totally wrong for a foreigner to take free giveaways from the government in times when so many Thais are suffering, if you cannot afford to live here do not be here. How many cheap charlie falungs have taken care packages that could have gone to needy Thai families, again that is why we all get a bad name.

Or a massage voucher for when there is a happy ending to all this.

So you won't be needing the condoms then, lucky there's still plenty of toilet rolls available ????
