You make  a good point, but how does any of that exonerate Trump? He's the POTUS for crissakes! If your point is that we should throw each and every one of these incompetent a-holes out of office, including Trump, then I'll agree with you.

Isnt the topic here something about trying to restart economies? Isn't that good? Are people trying to be economists here? They want to claim macroeconomic knowledge greater then central banks and chief economists, Secretaries of the treasury? What is the argument here exactly? Is there one? You prefer the world stay closed?

Thailand cant stay locked down much longer either. Personally I would like to see some international coordination on things such as flight resumption, and if health certificates will be used, how obtained etc....there is tragedy on the horizon soon if not opened back up for business... at least in some limited coordinated way...soon...and Thailands Govt knows this just like the rest of the world does.

that will be difficult.  what is the value of a "no-covid19" certificate, when (assuming the test is 100% accurate) the holder can be infected any time after the blood/mucous sample is drawn?  what value if possibly 7-10 days prior to the sample being taken, the person is infected but antibodies are not yet being produced?

you could potentially be virus-free with a fresh certificate, fly into thailand, and be infected going through immigration control.  with multiple strains and potential for more mutation of the virus, 14-day quarantines will be with us longer than we would like.

There will likely be a few problems....

The first one is that recent information suggests that the % of asymptomatic people may not be high (likely not more than 5-6% of pop). If this information is confirmed, it means it will be a long time before herd immunity is reached.

The other one is that there are still uncertainties about immunity: how effective, for how long?

Exactly, and that is why testing is worthless, unless you are testing for antibodies and it has been established that that in itself means no transmission.

Sorry.

I listened to a former Noble prize expert who said until we start a daily 3 million a day testing is in place we will be without a real solution.

You bringing up So California reminded me of hearing  this shocker regarding CoVid 19

3 days ago - In announcing the extension of Los Angeles County's stay-at-home order ... with coronavirus by summer if social distancing measures stop. “Virtually all residents in the county” would be infected by August 1 if residents stopped distancing ... on coronavirus research amid U.S.-China dispute on virus origin.

How did they enter in February with travel from China restricted since January?

The Chinese New Year was early this year, IIRC it was 25th/26th January

So Trump's clamp down on Chinese entering USA would have been too late to stop people travelling to USA for CNY

It didn't apply to US Citizens / Green Card / Work Visa Holders who may have gone back to China to visit family for CNY and returned in early Feb so no impact there.

Do you remember who he was ? Assuming he did not get the Nobel prize for literature, would it not be better to take advice from one of the many YouTube experts ... ???? ... ?

I asked a poster to back up claims in their now removed post, they have failed to do so.

I did provide the evidence - <snip> - but here is another one:

In powerful show of defiance of #coronavirus scare, huge crowds gathering in NYC's Chinatown for ceremony ahead of annual #LunarNewYear parade. Chants of "be strong Wuhan!" If you are staying away, you are missing out!

Wonder why it is so bad in NYC?  Maybe because it has the biggest and most popular Chinatown in the world and the Dem politicians did a lot of PR for the parades?  And now those same Dems blame Trump for everything wrong.

Still does not answer the very clear questions I put to you.

Because Trump has control over the decisions made by individual States.

Of course he does not and once again he is running his mouth.

Yes, we know that Trump only has control over states when the topic is why do blue states have such high infection and death rates from the virus.

Google it yourself mate.

As the other bloke said - it is all over the internet - and twitter and facebook.

The Dems and their Dem Admin in places like NY and Cal opposed Trump's ban and called him racist for restricting travel from China.  But he couldn't stop all the exempts returning after the Chinese New Year in China and bringing it back with them.
