Another article says the government makes 1.8 billion baht from each lottery draw.  Restart the lottery and use the money to help struggling people forced out of business by the government.

one of the takeaways from this should be how many Thais are actually working to support western tourism, it is a huge number who were instantly put out of work when cities like Pattaya were closed down

Government officials get a salary and good retirement package,  they don't deserve any extra from the public purse...but if private people want to give gifts that's OK as long as there is a limit to value in baht, a limit to how much can be accepted per year and it all goes into the public record.

I always planned on not being here when things unravel however i think i might just be unless my flight in september takes off before the inevitable

Unrest will bring army on streets and only increase more unrest

I can see vast changes ahead for thailand its not going to be pleasant for all concerned from TOP to bottom

I note that if we farang retired or continuing to work in Thailand we were not there;

it would be several hundreds of thousands of Thai people who would be added to the millions already crying famine.
I currently host my stepson, his wife and their two children because they no longer have a job;
Many of my European friends are doing the same thing everywhere in Thailand.
Thanks to our pensions which are sometimes very modest (mine does not even reach the 40,000 baht minimum required for more than a year because of the vertiginous fall of the euro compared to the baht),

 

we can prevent very many Thai people falling into misery.
Will the Thai government be sensitive to this?
or will he continue to call us dirty farang ?

And this is what happens when you have the 'sacred' military (as Apirat referred to them recently) so deeply ingrained in the goings on in a country. These guys aren't politicians or economists trained to run a developing nation, they are army bootlickers. 

 

Military generals that are multi $ millionaires, protecting the elite right to the very very top, spending on completely unnecessary military gear to make themselves look important, jobs for the boys in all aspects of the government (Anutin and Prompao perfect examples) and corruption that is rife. The list is endless.

Have screenshot from OP to highlight their insanity.  Pray tell exactly how much Foreign Currency reserves you currently hold when claiming you can only pay it once....??  Not 200-300 Billion Baht but 225 Billion USD
