Immigration to U.S. Suspended

Featured Replies

There's just been a Presidential tweet:

"I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!”

Details will no doubt follow.

Another day another travel ban

Wonder how long it will take the courts to invalidate this one !

17 million newly unemployed Americans and yet we need more immigrants.  Get real.

Even with this temporary ban on new Green Card entries, the US remains exceptionally open compared to most countries, a great many of which have closed their borders to ALL non-citizens and non-residents, and imposed quarantines on those who can enter.

The US only bans non-citizens/residents who have recently been to the Schengen area, the UK, Ireland, Mainland China, or Iran. (There's also the substantial closure of the land borders with Canada and Mexico.)

That is, if you're coming from Indonesia or Malaysia or the Philippines or Singapore or Thailand, say, and you have your visa in hand or qualify for Visa Waiver, you can enter the US tomorrow -- flights permitting -- and won't be subject to any quarantine, either. That's not possible in the opposite direction for Americans.

There were reports this week that the U.S. is considering virus testing international arrivals, at least from some countries.

Temporary workers are, of course, not impacted.

I think this Procalamtion covers the topic? Seems like there are more exclusions (9) than inclusions (3). EB-5/investor visa not affected.

At some point we'll probably need more human chattel to work in the meat-packing industry? Shades of Upton Sinclair's seminal work, "The Jungle" (1906).
