PHUKET: The organiser of a free food giveaway held in Phuket Town yesterday (Apr 20) has been charged for not enforcing social distancing as required under the health regulations issued under the Emergency Decree in order to to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The food giveaway was held at the Surin Circle (also called the “Clocktower Circle”) in Phuket Town at 4pm, Capt Udom Petcharat of the Phuket City Police explained.

The donation was of 1,000 free food boxes, with the giveaway announced on social media, he explained.

“They can hold their giveaways at their local District Office or police station, where social distancing can be managed,” he explained.

perhaps local authorities should have announced that first so that people wishing to help with donations can do it safely

IMO the blame for this is with the local Authorities for not giving guidance on how it should be done safely and under supervision

Come on.

You're allowed to use common sense before doing these food donations. What could possibly be the outcome considering 1000's of people have lost their job, no income, trouble feeding your family???...???... people desperately scrambling and ignoring all safety guidelines to get food/money.

I applaud people who are devoting their money and time for these charities, but they really need to understand there has to be rules/law or chaos ensues.

And I'm sure involving the authorities will create lot's of delay, paper signing, bribes given etc etc, but that's the law - and without law, we have chaos

Wife explained to me that we can contact the local government or village head and they will setup the rails, security, etc etc to avoid social contact and sudden rush. It is common sense. No big brother here, just simply following current rules.

Not rocket science. (Old Don from Don's Cafe would agree)!

Kamala Villiage in Phuket has faced slew  of developments this past 2 years , every big hotel arriving using  lots of PR and emphasizing the contribution they are making to the community and what great team players they are. Blah , blah.

So to , Phuket Fantasy , one of Phukets landmark attractions . It has  doubled its  footprint at the same time ...  and it has always been renown for its huge buffets ...

So where are these great team players now ?

What are they doing for the villiage ....and for all the staff that they lured  from all over South Thailand to man their work force , and cant leave ?

Where are all the big guys and the government now ?

Wheres their contribution?

It appears to be all small to medium farang/Thai businesses doing all the contributing in Kamala ...

Fortunately the long lines of hungry are keeping social distancing ... for now.

Why werent the police doing the job of crowd control in Phuket Town ?

And in Pattaya where the crowd got sent home hungry ?

They may not want to  be proactive and work now , but the cops  will have plenty  of work to do if the crowds start looting...
