at least this 'unwanted' attention would now ensure the animals get to eat tonight

Good idea. I'm sure the tigers will love to meet them in person.

I fail to see anything overly sinister about this story. I watched all the videos. Clearly the zoo employees were accepting the food that was purchased and working with the group to feed the animals.

  • It is an embarrassment for Thailand.  The videos are very interesting. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFkk3dYIYjzPNr_WYpHnnVg/feed   They show animals with NO ONE around to care for t

  • This story stinks, donation to themselves?

And people wonder why nobody dares talk about the fictitious Chinese flu figures!

China Virus , you mean

Many family charity businesses operating in  the US. The first things will be paid for are leased luxury company cars, high salary of those who run the business, mortgage of office properties and many more other expenses related to the charity or covered up under charity's name. All paid by donations.

And yet here you are condeming them when thre is no evidence they did wrong. But there is evidence they did the right thing.

perhaps you should step back and reconsider why you think like that when the evidence is against your view.

have you watched the first video?  they did NOT go in to save the aminals.  just a group of friends out for a walk, found what they imagined was an abandoned zoo complex, and broke in for fun.  nothing at all to do with animal welfare.

they went back a second time (first video 02:40), again without permission, to feed the tigger, but were confronted by the zookeepers.

there is no indication they even attempted to contact the staff or the owners before embarking on their crusade.  he seems unable to comprehend why zookeepers would not allow random strangers found trespassing on the property to feed food of unknown origin to the animals.

sure, you can defend it, when it fits your personal philosophy, because the ends justify the means.  i know folks back home that think breaking into abortion clinics to vandalize or even burn them down is justified.

yes, she may have given permission AFTER the video came out.

from first video at 01:38

"...so we moved along, and we're walking cautiously cause umm, we weren't sure who was there or whether we were allowed to be there.  there was no sign saying we weren't allowed to be there, so...."

She clearly stated that she gave permission on the first trip in as the group heard a tiger crying out. Come up with facts instead of making up stuff.

Very racist remark.

Read post 55 above. Unless you address the points raised there negative comments are pretty valueless.

Yeah, didn't seem to be entering anywhere without permission.

Zoo staff seemed happy enough they were there.

The animals enjoyed the food.

Where's the harm?

The harm is someone lose face as his zoo cannot afford to even feed its animals.

You're wrong, as post 55 above clearly shows.

They regularly fed the animals, with consent of the zoo keepers whom they contacted. This was about animal welfare.

There is no evidence of any misappropriation of funds.

In this case yes, the small offence of trespass was justified because it exposed widespread neglect of animals and improved the situation of the animals concerned.

Moreover the fact that the authorities are helping to feed the animals shows that the owner was unable to do so.

you are welcome to watch minh nguyen's video, listen to his own words as he describes the first two illegal visits to the zoo.

then you may apologize for accusing me of "making up stuff."  i shall forgive you in advance.

despicable. but why exclude Thais from the headline? why not "Foreigners and locals charged for Abandoned Phuket Zoo post"?

Why are all of the cynics on this page just assuming that they did not have sincere intentions, and were simply trying to save the abandoned animals?

Wait for the ‘go fund me page’.

Oh dear, there’s a price to pay for being arrogant and stupid in this part of the world.

These clowns are headed for The Monkey House.

You must have a poor understanding of how Thailand works.

a ) Only poor people spend time in the The Monkey House. Thailand literally has the most relaxed legal system on planet Earth. It borders on comical. This group has already made $45k via GoFundMe so they are likely doing a deal with the police, 50/50 split. Police will get half the proceeds.

b ) I can't speak for the other nationalities but no one would dare put an American in the Monkey House for a significant amount of time over something as small as this. The only way an American spends any length of time in prison in Thailand is if they commit a "very serious" crime. But even then, it's doubtful. A million baht fine and everything goes away and it's extremely likely the US government would pay up. America has a "no man left behind" policy regardless of how scummy you are. Americans are untouchable. Pretty much. Hands off the USA mate. You might not like it but it's just reality.

How do you know, that the animals are not taken care of?

Properly are the animals taken care of as usual....We are just dealing with idiots trying to fool people into donating money....I hope they will be spending long time in the "monkey house".

How do we know the animals were not being taken care of...…...hmmm...…...look at the animals in the videos.....does that seem they are 'taken care of'?

some random foreigner and his mates are worried about your family.

they break into your home while you're at work.  they think your childrens' bedrooms are messy and the bathroom is filthy.

your wife confronts them when they begin feeding your children scraps they brought from some wet market.

they make videos to post on youtube.

they start a gofundme to save your children.

I would not like to be your children if you keep them locked in their rooms living in their own poop and urine, starve them so they are super skinny, and make sure the bedrooms are so small the poor kids develop behaviours problems and start spinning in circles as they have gone mad.

Are you saying you are happy to keep your children in conditions like theses animals are kept in?  If so, I do hope someone filmed them and they got help from kind hearted human beings.

Most of the comments I see on this topic are the usual dip<deleted> haters who sound as though they have no better thing in their pitiful lives than to spout the usual negative <deleted> over and over. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

The little that can be seen of the inside of the enclosures and the physical appearance of that tiger is appalling. That place is a disgrace as are a number of 'zoos' in Thailand.

I think these people are genuine in the concern for the animals in this zoo. It looks like they have more concern than the owner in their mansion.

If I get censured or banned by the mods for this post...  good bloody job. TV News is turning into a whinge fest. There are very good parts to TV but this part....  pfft

Who appointed these people to collect donation for the animals? Obviously, most of the donations will go to them instead of the animals.

People should donate directly to the zoo instead of scammers like these.

The zoo is privately owned and closing. Why on earth give money to the owner who will not care for the animals.

Do they have a Patreon page for their court costs?

  • Popular Post

So after reading Edwin from Wildlife rescue's post, it would show that once again that old Thai chestnut of face interferes with all reason and decency. thais caught out lying and neglecting the animals that can no longer turn a profit. Now the foreigners trying to do the right thing are caught up in the laws that protect the guilty and shameless.

I would like to think there will be international exposure of this story.

Not sure..

i've not read the full details, but some predictions: -

2 non-Thais will be deported after paying a bailout, blacklisted for 10 years

2 Thais = jailterm or wai500

Zoo owner told to use donation money to take care of animals

Zoo still closes, most of the animals die, owner retires

Summary - Covid-19 to blame

None of those names really match up to the nationalities.

Story was completely different from the national news sources.  Or the people that broke the story.  Looks like damage control and strings being pulled now to make the good sameritans into the evil empire.

Richard Barrow has all the original stories and links if interested in seeing the original story.
