The Last Song

Featured Replies

quite simply, raro, the answer is NO.

AS a Last song,

How about Dennis Leary's A$$hole>

Have a read, it's well funny.

Im just a regular Joe, with a regular job

Im your average white, suburbanized slob

I like football and porno and books about war

I got an average house, with a nice hardwood floor

My wife and my job, my kids and my car

My feet on my table, and a Cuban cigar

But sometimes that just aint enough to keep a man like me interested

(oh no, no way, uh uh)

No I gotta go out and have fun at someone else's expense

(woah yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah)

I drive really slow in the ultra fast lane

While people behind me are going insane

Im an a$$hole (hes an a$$hole, what an a$$hole)

I use public toilets and I pi$$ on the seat

I walk around in the summer time saying "how about this heat?"

Im an a$$hole (hes an a$$hole, what an a$$hole)

Sometimes I park in handicapped spaces

While handicapped people make handicapped faces

Im an a$$hole (hes an a$$hole, what an a$$hole)

Maybe I shouldn't be singing this song

Ranting and raving and carrying on

Maybe they're right when they tell me Im wrong...

....NAH!!!

Im an a$$hole (hes an a$$hole, what an a$$hole)

You know what I'm gonna do

I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible

Hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps

And all leather cow interior

And big brown baby seal eyes for head lights (yeah)

And Im gonna drive in that baby at 115 miles per hour

Gettin' 1 mile per gallon,

Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds

In the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers

And when I'm done sucking down those greaseball burgers

I'm gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag

And then I'm gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the side

And there aint a goddam.n thing anybody can do about it

You know why? Because we've got the bombs, that's why

2 words, nuclear fuc.ki.ng weapons, OK?

Russia, Germany, Romania, they can have all the democracy they want

They can have a big democracy cakewalk

Right through the middle of Tiananmen Square

and it wont make a lick of difference

Because we've got the bombs, OK?

John Wayne's not dead, he's frozen, and as soon as we find a cure for cancer

Were gonna thaw out the duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off

You know why,

Have you ever taken a cold shower, well multiply that by 15 million times

That's how pissed off the dukes gonna be!

I'm gonna get the Duke, and John Cassavetes,

and Lee Marvin, and Sam Peckinpah, and a case of whiskey,

and drive down to Texas and say.....

(Hey! You know, you really are an a$$hole!)

Why don't you just shut up and sing the song, pal?

Im an a$$hole (hes an a$$hole, what an a$$hole)

Im an a$$hole (hes the worlds biggest a$$hole)

A-S-S-H-O-L-E

Everybody

A-S-S-H-O-L-E

Im an ###### and Im proud of it

Mary Pop-inns or was that Hop-inns

:D

Once upon a time, there was a tavern (Jolly Frog-ski)

Where we used to raise a glass or two :o

Remember how we laughed away the hours,

Think of all the great things we would do

Those were the days, my friend

We thought they'd never end

We'd sing and dance forever and a day

We'd live the life we'd choose

We'd fight and never lose

For we were young and sure to have our way

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di di di di di

Then, the busy years went rushing by us

We lost our starry notions on the way

If, by chance, I'd see you in the tavern, :D

We'd smile at one another and we'd say

Those were the days, my friend

We thought they'd never end

We'd sing and dance forever and a day

We'd live the life we'd choose

We'd fight and never lose

Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di di di di di

Just tonight, I stood before the tavern

Nothing seemed the way it used to be

In the glass, I saw a strange reflection

Was that lonely man really me? :D

Those were the days, my friend

We thought they'd never end

We'd sing and dance forever and a day

We'd live the life we'd choose

We'd fight and never lose

Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di di di di di

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di

Di di di di di di di di di di

Through the door, there came familiar laughter

I saw your face and heard you call my name (on ThaiVisaDotCom)

Oh, my friend, we're older but no Bud-wiser

For in our hearts, the dreams are still the same

These are the days, my friend

We know they'll never end

We'll sing and dance forever and a day

We'll live the life we choose

We'll fight and never lose

These are the days, oh yes, these are the days :D

These mist covered mountains

Are a home now for me

But my home is the lowlands

And always will be

Some day you'll return to

Your valleys and your farms

And you'll no longer burn

To be brothers in arm

Through these fields of destruction

Baptism of fire

I've witnessed your suffering

As the battles raged higher

And though they did hurt me so bad

In the fear and alarm

You did not desert me

My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds

So many different suns

And we have just one world

But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hel_l

And the moon's riding high

Let me bid you farewell

Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight

And every line on your palm

We're fools to make war

On our brothers in arms

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits.

One of the best closing time/last songs, of all time.

To me, the music in this particular song has always touched me stronger than the lyrics themselves.

I find the ambience of it akin to some of the best floyd, the guitar poignant to an unbelievable degree.

It has always, without fail sent shivers up and down my spine.

has he been knighted?

People's Hall Dusseldorf, 1980 if I remember the year correctly. First time I ever saw the " holding up of the ciggy lighter " thing. Tens of thousands of Hermans swaying to Romeo and Juliet with their little lights flickering away..............Wonderful.

must have been 1979....check here: http://www.odabasi.net/dstours.htm - the venue's called Philipshalle...

I saw them 1985 on their Brothers in Arms Tour....most memorable moment was Private Investigations...

Back on topic: "Sleep Tonight" on the Rolling Stones' Dirty Work Album is one of my absolute favourites for a closing song.

Thanks for that. Could well have been 1979, I was there 78 thro 81, great concert, nice people.

Same venue about the same time, pitched up for Fleetwood Mac. After a long delay and much hand clapping, concert cancelled as Mick Fleetwood had consumed that much vodka he couldn't stand. people not so nice then.

"Dreams" , nice way to go.

When I die I would like to be cremated and as I burn I would like Fire, by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown to play.
