The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) on Thursday (April 30) issued an order to extend the closure of Phuket Airport to 11.59pm on May 15 or until further notice, to curb the Covid-19 outbreak.

The previous closure order had been due to expire on May 1. The move is in line with a resolution of the provincial communicable disease committee on April 29 that the province should coordinate with CAAT to extend the airport closure for another 15 days.

On April 3 the CAAT ordered the airport to close from April 10 to April 30, in line with the province's move to contain the outbreak.

The CAAT order covers all commercial flight operations. Exempted from the order are state or military planes, emergency landings, technical landings, humanitarian aid and relief flights, repatriation flights and cargo aircraft.
