On very good authority, it seems they were taken to court and paid 100k fine and retrieved passport from Police station. They had multiple warnings over a few days but kept returning once police left.

Thast sounds about right , receive warning wait for police to move on and then come back, old people don't like being told they can't do something even if there a law that says you can't do it

No sympathy for them, how many times have we been told, the beaches are closed the should have been fined 100,000B...

French and Belgians - think they can do as they like and find out this ain't the EU!

Wouldn't have had a problem if they'd have followed the rules. Rules for their own safety. 80 year old - not wise to risk catching C19.

If they broke the rules in France do they think the police would treat them differently?

Yes, they would post bond, go to court, pay fine, get bond returned.

note the 100,000 is the maximum fine. That doesnt mean it is the fine. Only in extreme rare cases is the maximum imposed.

so yes he would have been treated differently, he wouldnt have lost 50,000 with no receipt and a further con of 2000 to follow police home.

Typical disgusting behaviour from the Police, exactly what we have all come to expect. The police are not there to serve the public and keep us all safe, they simply extort money from poor victims. 50,000 baht is a huge fine anywhere in the world and it should be controlled by the courts not some money grabbing bobbies. Glad to be out of it.

The sign next to them clearly states 1 year imprisonment

80 year old should have had more sense or maybe he’s just arrogant. Follow the rules. No sympathy...

Or maybe he thought that getting some fresh air and exercise on the beach was very low risk  and beneficial to health an at 80 years old  not much to loose anyway ?

Yes indeed. As I see it, he paid 50,000 baht for bail which keeps him out of prison until a court case. He still faces 1 year imprisonment or a 100,000 baht fine should his case be heard - stupid idiot!! As to his passport and an upcoming visa renewal, he should have thought about that before wandering off onto the beach with his pals!

Pim clearly confused as she’s 42 sorry 46 and didn’t get a receipt top matters off worse the old bill charged them 2,000 for a lift home - seems there’s one born every minute ????????

I am reliably informed the chief of Pattaya police has been informed, spoken with the parties involved and will launch an investigation and get back to them with the outcome within 48 hours....

These days, with cv19, a fast boat would be better.

Who extort money from poor victims??? The police done nothing!!!

  1. Him do something against the law.
  2. Him don't paid a fine to the police but paid money to a bail bond agent.
  3. If him don't get a bill, why him paid it?
  4. Why him or his wife not called a lawyer?
  5. Why his wife not made photos or video of it all?
  6. And why doesn't his friends done something too?

Can it be they are all STUPID? They can go out and do something against the law but can't do anything for help themself???

Why you look like you were in the Army or something?

I don’t want to insult anyone, it’s just you have the typical law-obeying face.

The bail bondsman suggested they pay 50,000 baht to him to expedite matters

You bet he did????

You need a lawyer on speed dial when living in Thailand. The lawyers are not currently busy, so they have plenty of time to help out.

Absurd, many times I have seen smokers on the beach flouting the laws, getting away with it time and time again, instead they target an 80 year old pensioner, it cannot get much lower than that.

why pay such a large amount in form of a fine.....and NEVER get a receipt ????

Absolutely rogue.

No need to move to Philippines all the nonsense has arrived.

Have to be an utter imbecile to remain in that city over the last decade. Now it's going to get really ugly. There are legions on the make and on the take and only scraps of carion to feed vultures.

Really like to know specifically what laws were broken and the fines that are on the books.

They could have charged him and his friends for social gathering which is forbidden under the Emergency decree, and on top of that for entering the beach which is also forbidden, by violating the local restrictions under the jurisdiction of the Chonburi Governor.

May be just me, but if I was so horrified of the police and visciously critical of a country's culture, I would not be living in that country and wasting my time posting angry rants on threads about life there.

We can agree to disagree that is life isn't it. Now in your situation and observation get back to me when you have evidence that the Thais paid the same fine as the Thais.

The article reference on TVF if it was in regards to the Pussy Cat Bar on the Darkside it had a lot more than just a few farangs and Thais drinking!  If you know anything about the Nongprue Police out here they make the Jomtien ones look like childs play.????

Yes - You have right and the sign doesn't say anything about a receipt either - so all good then ….

JALOUS et MESQUIN

Outside my house in Naklua, there were hundreds of Thais on the beach and in the water during Sunday. Police showed up at 5 p.m. but nothing happened except that they told some thais that they were not allowed to drink alcohol on the beach. They could have charged at least 20 million baht (200 * 100,000).

Here’s an idea, abide the law and avoid all this.  Just another idiot who thinks the law doesn’t apply to them.
