Jamaican singer Millie Small has died at the age of 73 after suffering a stroke.

The star was most famous for her hit single My Boy Lollipop, which reached number two in both the US and the UK in 1964.

It remains one of the biggest-selling ska songs of all time, with more than seven million sales.

Island Records founder Chris Blackwell announced her death and remembered her as "a sweet person... really special".

Great tune & a real breakthrough for international recognition of reggae music.

Do you suppose any reggae (sorry Bob Marley tribute) bar in Thailand would understand that without trail blazers like Millie Small there would be no Bob Marley?

I met her when I was a kid, when she visited Norway. Amazing voice. RIP

She was a friend and neighbour briefly

Oh, you must know her daughter, Jaelee, whom I'm quite close friends with, and have worked with many times over the years.

Such a sad and unexpected passing.

Why?

As someone once said:- It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt
