I have build block walls around the boundary of my house 22 metres long and at the back 15 metres wide.

I want to put some metal fencing on top in panels roughly 1.8metres long and a metre high with spacing of 10cms between upright spires probably with tips on top.

Now it’s 40 plus degrees I just can’t hack spending a fair part of the day in the sun and would prefer to pay someone to do plus it makes sense to have someone make in a factory and then bring and fit.

I have been quoted 115,000 baht to do, anybody have any idea if this quote is bona fide?

Work out the materials cost, it’s not that difficult, I got to about 480 meters and guessed that it was about 160 per length so came up with just under 13,000 for the steel. Probably not correct but you haven’t given enough information for anything more detailed. Double that for welding and painting, add a reasonable profit margin.

So that would suggest that the estimate may have a 200% foreigner tax, or if it’s stainless it could be cheap.

The OP might check local regulations on fence height. I know more than two expats who thought no building regulations in Thailand. Boy did they moan about the cost of removing part of their fences.  In ANY quote, get the spec of the materials. "Heavy duty" is not a spec. The quality of the metal primer and quality of the glassy oil base paint on metal does make a real difference. Cheap paint, named after a bird, animal or tractor will not last as long as a quality series of paint from Jotun, Dulux, TOA or Nippon. Stainless 304 is a real long term solution if fabricated and installed by the right firm. You an also see and price the China factory made fence sections currently on show at Global House Store and at Thai Watsadu.  Interesting post system. Powder coating metal fence posts on my residential electric fence look new 12 years later. Stainless 304 fence posts for the WASP 1525344945_BuriramThailandElectricFenceStainlessGate.jpg.a5739a53f1f2379eafe15b9375650218.jpgelectric fence also attach to locally made stainless 304 decorative fence sections.

No problem with height as I am country, stainless is out of the question.

I think I will change height to 600mm with 14 spires to each panel, it won’t make any change to labour costs however will result in a reduction of over 200 metres of metal and obviously primer and paint and see how my new quote goes.

The metal was easy to price at my local Buriram Builders Merchants. The TOA Glipton Super High Gloss Enamel paint was easy to spray. Rubber end caps were easy to install into the box steel. This fence is not for security, it is to keep cattle and dogs out of a private gated driveway in a Buriram Village on Highway 2229.

Thanks you gave me idea instead of hundreds of spires, run the metal horizontally far less work.

Probably won’t look so nice but will stop the dogs jumping over.

I suppose you used Tek screws to secure?

You really need to decide exactly what specific metal you want to use, then it will be easy to price.

Bob’s fence is certainly easier in one way as it’s not welded.

it looks as if he used the standard roofing bolts.

you will want at least 2 estimates.

Thanks for the comments. Yes in fact Roofing type screws. That wall is on a driveway, near in laws, not where I live. But dogs were jumping the concrete fence prior to the steel on top. Yes no welding. The mounting on top of the concrete block wall is a bit more elaborate than it appears. NOTHING is as easy as you first think in Thailand. Always a bit more money and a bit longer to accomplish.

In any event, there is no way of knowing what a project like this is worth without a drawing set and a detailed bill of material.

Many companies will provide this for free, but is if fair to pay for it before actually agreeing to the quote.

It is also important to know what you want prior to soliciting quotes. Drive around and look at what others are doing in the area, you might see something you like. Don't discount stainless out of hand.  have it quoted both ways.

@ K-Bob, nice fence....

Yellowtail the cost of doing stainless is prohibitive. I worked out the cost of stainless based on the costs I paid for my front fence and gate and also the terrace fencing.

i have produced a drawing design of a fence panel of which I will reguire 28 panels. I have had two companies come in this week to quote and the best so far is 56,000 baht going to a revised 600mm panel primed and painted.

Works out 2k per panel so I will go ahead with it.

If I done the same in Australia I am sure it would be quadruple that.

Thanks for your response though.

Yes that’s installed, the installation is the easy bit.

I was almost tempted to do it myself but at 2k baht why would one.

I looked at some work he had done some nice welding.
