Joint investigation by the Department of Disease Control and the Excise Department has revealed the illegal sale of canned draft beer through online channel.

The probe was undertaken after complaints on social media about the distribution of draft beer of various brands with delivery service.

Investigations showed the operator had violated the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act 2008 under Section 32, which prohibits the advertisement of alcoholic beverages, in this case through social media messaging. Conviction brings imprisonment not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding Bt500,000, or both.

They accused, who have not been named, were found to have also violated Excise Tax Act 2017, Section 157, by changing the liquor containers for commercial purposes. There is a fine of not more Bt5,000. Officials are collecting evidence to prosecute the offenders.

Alcohol Control Board director Dr Nipon Chinanonwait said the Department of Disease Control has regularly monitored the sale of alcoholic beverages. Past inspections had revealed sale of alcoholic beverages through many online channels, often found to be violating the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act 2551 in many ways, such as advertising, discounts, free giveaways, etc. In addition, selling alcoholic beverages through the online channel will not be to able to ensure the beverage is not accessed by someone under the legal age.

“I would like to emphasise that parents should take care of children and youth thoroughly and we request the cooperation of entrepreneurs -- whether online or offline sales -- to strictly abide by the law,” Dr Nipon said.

Those ring pull jars are awesome and would be great for homebrew, where do I buy them ?

Saw some in a China Shop of all places in Chiang Mai a few weeks back; also seen similar in 'Yok' the Baking supply Shop.

If it is canned how can it be draft?

Tooheys in Australia sold draught beer in both cans and bottles in the 70's and compared to the draught beer out of the tap it tasted like s**t

This happens all the time - people break the law and actually advertise the service on the internet. How dumb can you be? Do they think the authorities don't check what is happening (as these authorities did). Same as these who organise motorbike racing on the highways and let the police know via the internet where and when they can be caught. Brilliant. Just another example of Thais not being able to join the dots....if potential customers can see what we're offering, then so can the authorites. But they don't get that.

And yet every mom and pop shop in the entire country is selling all hours of the day and during banned days and they do nothing about it.

And that is a good thing ...
