Drunken BA crew force Barbados flight cancellation to Heathrow A British Airways flight from Barbados to London Heathrow was cancelled at the last minute after cabin crew were allegedly suspended following a night of heavy drinking at a luxury Caribbean resort. Passengers due to board Flight BA254 on Saturday were left stranded after the airline withdrew the entire cabin crew before departure following complaints about their behaviour during an overnight layover. According to reports, the crew had been staying at an all-inclusive hotel where unlimited alcohol was available. What began as an evening in the hotel bar reportedly descended into drunken chaos, with staff and guests raising concerns about the crew's conduct. Crew allegedly caused disturbanceWitnesses claimed one female crew member became so intoxicated she was sick in the hotel bar, while a male colleague reportedly had to be carried back to his room. Other guests are said to have asked the group to quieten down, only for one crew member to allegedly respond: "We're British Airways crew, what of it?" After management at Heathrow were informed of the incident, British Airways reportedly removed the entire cabin crew from duty before the return flight. The aircraft later returned to London with only the pilots on board and no passengers. Passengers could receive compensationBecause the cancellation was reportedly caused by an internal operational issue, affected passengers may be entitled to compensation of up to £520 each under UK261 passenger rights legislation. With the Boeing 777 capable of carrying around 235 passengers, the compensation bill alone could exceed £120,000, in addition to hotel accommodation, meals, transport and rebooking costs. British Airways has not publicly commented on the allegations, although reports indicate four crew members have since been suspended pending an investigation. Latest in string of embarrassing incidentsThe Barbados incident is the latest in a series of high-profile disciplinary cases involving British Airways staff during overseas layovers. Previous incidents have included crew members being disciplined over excessive drinking, alleged drug use, inappropriate behaviour at hotels and misconduct during stopovers in destinations including Singapore, South Africa, the Maldives and Belfast.
