At the moment, all the airlines are struggling so they take all the cash they can

they will refund some money later or change the date for the flight

Read between the lines.  No way is Thailand opening up to unlimited quarantineless international tourist travel any time soon.  My guess is 2-3 years.

Good point.  The airlines have some type of catch all wording that says the passenger is responsible for obtaining all visas, permits, etc.
