Are Thai's Allowed To Leave Thailand?

Featured Replies

I was under the impression that apart from repatriation flights, Thailand's borders are closed due to the current Covid 19 Pandemic.  Yet, I've just heard of a Thai girl that has arrived in the UK this week on a tourist visa and another that's leaving for Australia on Sunday (subject to quarantine but allowed to enter on compassionate grounds).

Does anyone know how this can be?  If Thai's can leave I'll get my wife over here as I doubt I'll be allowed in to Thailand anytime soon.

They can leave no problem if they have a visa for the destination country and if the country lets travellers in.

They have always been able to leave.

i have several friends who have travelled to Europe over the last couple of months.

There has never been any restriction on either Thais or foreigners departing Thailand by air, assuming they meet the entry requirements of the destination country, and can find a flight - the restrictions only concern entry.

OK thanks guys. I'm not going to dash out and buy a ticket because I think there could be cancellations etc. with the return leg but once Thailand opens or partially opens its borders I'll be making a visa application for my Mrs.

I can see from this thread that I'm right to hang fire on booking those tickets:
