The Anti-Fake News Center recently arrested 9 people for posting false/fake information on social media.   In your opinion, are criminal penalties justified for posting false/fake information?

But the survey questions don't mention arrest.

Surveys should NEVER be confusing. If they are then the accuracy of the data/result is inaccurate/very inaccurate.

I vote no,  it should be upto each person individually to decide for themself what is fake or false news..

i hope this happens as the police and govt can then be prosecuted,the announcements in bkk and pattaya by officials theres no prostitution and corruption immediately come to mind,WHO too,theres a long list of know it alls dressed in uniform and that shouldnt be a protection in fact they should be hit doubly as they have a greater responsibility legally.dont hold your breath and if it comes to pass itll be the people who speak the truth about the dodgy specials ones who will feel the weight of a fake law thats there to keep illegal officials in business and keep them ripping us off everywhere.one thing with corona we can see worldwide the govt isnt fit for purpose and we shouldnt be charged for the privilege of keeping donuts well sugared

While they were out arresting people did they by any chance catch that eccentric guy who pretends to be a James Bond villain pretending to be a senor government official? Right...the one who, a few months ago tried to dupe the public by intentionally spreading the 'fake news' that the virus was “100% under control”.

Employees from CNN, NBC , NY Times etc would fill the prison cells pretty quick.  Maybe not a bad thing to dissuade them from taking advantage of the ignorant again in the future.  Of course they would need a new business model since the current one is to take advantage of the ignorant.

However, I think the biggest problem here is who gets to decide what constitutes "fake news" and on what grounds.

 

I think the first step should be to punish politicians that make statements they know to be false or statements that are misleading. That must be done before even talking about punishing normal citizens for doing the same thing.

Unfortunately many people are to stupid to realise what is fake and what is not (e.g. 40% of Republican voters believe that Bill Gates wants to microchip everybody using vaccinations to implant them). These fake news stories can lead to serious harm.

 

Serial offenders should be responsible for the damage they cause - either financially or via incarceration.

Suggest you do a correction and add Fox News, otherwise your original post is fake news.
