  • The only thing I admire about Jackson Pollock (and several others) is that they managed to convince art intellectuals and serious buyers that their output had some artistic merit ... and make millions

Taste is varied with each individual.

One sees a sattelite image, and another just see a bunch of splattered drops.

Although that I sees a bushfull forest and 'sees' a distorted mind I don't like this picture which can be found at many artists floor right under the easel.

My favorites are with Escher-ism drawings from himself and like and the Bruegels (both father and son).

Strangely enough......And in fact.......I have spent many, many hours staring at Pollock Paintings.  I find them beautiful and amazing. The painting I posted above is one of my favorite.

Anyway....what is life without both music and art?

Art is priceless

You are right - only to be sold at auction.  If you can price it, then it is not art

The only meaning in Pollacks paintings are what they say about society and the vanity of our materialistic view.

So many things in this world have artificial value that people dream about paying for. The rich and the intellectuals are frequently the biggest fools. Good on Pollack for making a career taking the cash from these deluded snobs.

Pseudo intellectuals, and investors buy into

the name only, doesn't matter if its  a turd

on a bit of canvas.

Without the name its worth a carrot, and

no-one will worship its artistic genius.

Trivial, or profoundly talented? You decide.

I am not interested in any of the paintings, but as I said, the rest of your OP is really true.
