Why are 12 year old kids and younger riding motorcycles?

Do police care that underage kids are riding motocycles?  Obviously their parents don't care about their safety.

I agree, I was 8 when I got my first bike but was riding since I was 6.

It cannot be much fun and adventure driving your Mum or Granny on the back of the bike to the local 7-11. But they do, adults couldn't care less. No insurance, no training, but hey, I want to go to the shops....drive me!

At 9 years old, I used to pay my older brother to ride his scooter around the block a few times...biggest thrill!

Bought the scooter at 12 years old...fixed it up and painted it so that it looked new...at 14 finally old enough to get a license...rode various 2 wheeled motorcycles until I sold my 1800cc bike a couple of years back...

Loved the bikes...made life and travel more interesting...????

When I grew up we kids broke a few rules, rode unlicensed mini bikes on roads, dirt bikes.

Few police around, none nearby. The difference is,  if rorted we would have been screwed and parents held responsible!

It's probably the worst aspect of the mai pen rai attitude ( there are many good and bad ones in my opinion ) . There's just no excuse for letting kids ride motorbikes , even in the village . They do die in what should be unacceptable numbers . One of the biggest tasks for the rest of my life will be to try and keep my now 8 year old son , off them  .

Some of the kids ride better than the adults.

teach them young so they'll drive better when they get older, same as anything 5

What are you on about with "no training"? They've been riding on m'bikes since before they could walk, and certainly way better m'bike riders than the average farang guest in LOS.

To answer the OP; because they don't live in a PC nanny state like the OP does.

Seems to me that TVF is populated by some people that think they know better than Thais how they should live in their own country. There's a word that describes such people.

What is that word please?

So what's the numbers of falang guests killed on motorbikes compared with Thais?

These kids been riding one way or the other for their entire lives. Many ride up front when young, they got a bird's eye view of all of it.

But did they learn any road or safety sense. No, they make all the same mistakes their parents do, if they live long enough!

In my village,it´s down to 6-7 year olds now! Besides what is obviously wrong with this, there is also another aspect to it,When grown ups teach children, that they don`t need to care about the law, they also teach them disrespect for the law in other situations, for instance when it comes to red light. But,mai pen rai.....

So why have a legal age for driving a motorbike then.

What's the point of having laws.

If parents don't care why should government.

"Why are 12 year old kids and younger riding motorcycles?"

Because their feet can't reach the pedals in a car....

It's <deleted>.

The number of farangs riding in LOS is infinitesimal compared to the number of Thais so no comparison possible.

My friend was shocked to see children riding motorbikes.

He asked his girlfriend "Why don't the police stop them".

She looked at him like he was from mars.

"The children don't have any money".

The point of having a law is so when it all goes wrong they have something to charge the offenders with.

NZ has laws against smoking MJ, but the cops don't enforce them for casual users. However MJ is just as bad as driving a m'bike underage- just takes longer for the bad effects to become apparent.

The problem is when they get on a bike and do stupid things, an accident occurs and it is the parents who have to cough up for the hospital bills.

Kids don't qualify for the 30 baht scheme, and the school won't cough up.

Less likely to pull a knife or a gun on you if you beep at them too.

Adjust the numbers for populations and miles ridden and maybe, just maybe, we can begin to have a conversation.

You lost me at MJ is just as bad as driving a bike underage unless you me at to say that MJ use by underage children is as bad as underage children driving.

If you actually meant to say that MJ use by adults is just as bad as underage children riding motorbikes, I have to ask for some stats on that.

OP, if this is the thing that you felt you needed to post about, you better book a flight home immediately because it’s only going to get worse.

Believe it or not, Thais don’t put warning labels on everything either.  Somehow they’re able to deduce that sticking their penis in a chainsaw isn’t a good idea without a label on the chainsaw telling them it’s a bad idea.

I like to remind people that Thailand is a country where you’re free to do what you want (within certain limits) including kill yourself via stupidity.

OP, if you don’t want your own children riding motorbikes at that age, don’t let them.  If you think everyone else should adopt your own risk profile, go back home where you and a small group of people can get a law passed preventing everything you think is unsafe.

Here, they’re just going to keep on keeping on.

Heck, the cop you’re hoping will enforce the law probably made his first motorcycle run when he was even younger than the people you think should be stopped.

Or maybe the Thai's are actually just wrong about this.

I care about kids dying needlessly due to irresponsibility. I don't think i need to silence myself sharing my opinion out of fear it may offend you or a Thai.

There are many words for people who look to subdue such open expressions of thoughts and concern. Should i really just shut my mouth since i'm not Thai?, should I not have any views on anything else happening in the world outside my own borders of birth?. That's an absolutely ridiculous argument or stance to take in my humble opinion.
