webfact
Sister of pregnant woman killed by monk demands apology By The Nation The sister of a 33-year-old pregnant woman who was hacked to death by the abbot of a Buri Ram temple has demanded an apology from the murderer. Police said that Phra Um Deeruenrom, 57, the abbot of Wat Ban Nong Bua in tambon Tum Yai, had confessed to killing the woman, named Lamyai, on Monday (June 15). He deliberately crashed his van into the pickup truck being driven by her husband in Kumeuang district, before chasing down Lamyai, who was eight months pregnant and killing her with a machete. Villagers told police that the monk had an affair with the victim, who tried to extort money from him by threatening to tell others that the unborn baby was his. Reporters who visited the victim’s family home on Tuesday found her family bitter and grieving. Mai, the victim’s sister, said she could not accept the fact that the murderer was an abbot who people in the community respected, and she wanted him to apologise to her family or else they would not organise a funeral. ChrisY1
I know I would want much more than an apology from a man of the cloth, had he killed my sister so brutally. Thailand racing to the bottom fast!

Not saying there are not decent monks who are worthy of worship and understand the Buddha's teaching 3

Aussieroaming
RIP lady. If an apology helps the grieving process then it ahould be done, regardless of how trivial some people perceive an apology would be worth from a murderer. 1

Nkpjed
Instead of an apology the family should be demanding that this piece of human waste be executed.

I always find this notion that an "apology" will make the world right. Many Thais would let the incident go if they are given sufficient blood money and an apology. A decade or so back this brutal murder would see it's resolution at the end of a Heckler-Koch machine gun. Nowadays? Maybe the perp walks after apologizing.
