Otherwise international trade with anyone would be impossible. It is interesting to hear such far left wing views from you, what you appear to be saying amounts to re-nationalisation without compensation. Quotas issued by the EU will no longer apply to the UK because we will cease to be part of the EU. UK waters will be fished as the UK sees fit and this may involve some EU interest, as part of any trade deal that might happen, although I personally don't think that fishing should be a part of any such deal. I didn't say anything about compensation (or not) but that may need to happen. Any left wing views I may have had perished with the demise of the Tooting Popular Front.

EU regulation does not prescribe how member States must manage fishing rights. That may be the previous and current status, but after the transition period things will change. That's why we left you know - to change things. UK legislation could suddenly change which affects everybody. Remember the Icelandic legislation changes? When UK assumes control of its own fishing grounds it will decide its own quotas. Previously EU held quotas will become wholly the UK's. Hey, maybe there's too much for us to deal with. The EU boats could then buy those quotas from the UK, (with landing and processing strings attached) then sell those same fish back to the EU again, always plus the new EU import tariff!! Lovely jubbly - everyone would be happy - Non? 4 1

The EU only sets quota, not how fishing rights are allocated. Fishing rights have been managed according to UK law. Each EU country has its own domestic law to manage fishing rights. Nothing ever prevented UK to change it before Brexit. Actually, it did change several times since the creation of the CFP. Unfortunately, it has not been made in the interest of small fishermen. https://unearthed.greenpeace.org/2019/03/07/fishing-brexit-uk-fleetwood/ As about quotas, there will always be quotas to protect fish stock, whoever decides about it. 1

Would you care to expand on exactly which financial services you are referring to when you make this statement? Because there are many financial services, such as investment banking, derivatives exchanges, OTC trading, etc. where the EU definitely does NOT have anything even remotely approaching the financial depth of the London markets. How about the reinsurance market? I would expect Lloyds has their hands in much of the EU's insurance industry. I think EU companies will definitely be hurt if they can no longer easily access some of the financial services that London offers. Yes, these can eventually be built in Berlin or even Paris, but it could take years or decades. Investors don't just establish new accounts for fun. They will need to be woo'ed and there has to be a realistic incentive in order to move their funds. It is easy to say the EU does not need the financial services of the UK in theory. But I wonder how true that statement is in reality.

The EU’s chief negotiator said that British demands in the ongoing trade talks in Brussels were unacceptable and that UK plans to ditch EU financial regulation risked another crisis that could hurt the bloc. UK proposals would make it easy to continue to run EU businesses from London after the end of the transition period on December 31, he said, and prevent the EU from freezing UK financial services out of the Single Market at short notice. "I will be blunt. Its proposals are unacceptable,” he said as negotiations continued in the Belgian capital, “The UK is trying to keep as many Single Market benefits as it can.” London remains Europe’s pre-eminent financial hub but that status is coveted by Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, which hope to profit from Brexit.
