There will be NO travel bubble now or in the near future.

Air Asia shares have been halted as of today and the airline is in financial difficulty.

Forget international travel for the foreseeable future.

Well done for basically parroting what was said in the report

That "travel bubble" idea was never feasible to begin with. Even if it had panned out, it never would've attracted the foreign tourist numbers those dreamers at TAT and assorted ministries hoped for.

They have probably found that the other countries were not going to accept the ludicrous conditions that were going to be imposed for the bubble trips. Now there has to be an excuse. If you look

Just because Thailand opens up "travel bubbles" for a few nations doesn't mean that everybody is immediately going to hop on a plane. People have different priorities right now than spending tight money on an overseas vacation. And especially not a vacation that basically would restrict them to a clearly defined, restricted area with no freedom of movement outside that "bubble".  That's my opinion anyway.

Not everyone who travels is on vacation

BOT is now spreading doom and gloom about the Thai economy. Think we will see a big devaluation of the baht sooner rather than later. Keep only as much Thai baht as needed for your visa in the Thai banks.

Why did the uk have them as safe on their list then all of a sudden shifted them to highly unsafe like America ?

Probably a lot to do with coconuts.

I agree, keep international travel bans in place until  there is a vaccine for the virus.

Once the vaccine is available, then only allow  people to enter  Thailand that have had the vaccine.

Until then, keep he flood gates tightly in place.

I've always thought it's a silly idea. It takes too long to negotiate this bilaterally, and in the meantime there will be new outbreaks.

In general, we can say a significant portion of a given population already have immunity or seem impervious to the virus right from the get go- perhaps 20-60% depending on the virus.  So, imo the hypothesis has some merit.  When it comes to covid 19 of course we simply don't know, and that's why we shouldn't also be so dogmatic in our opposite views.

Total, absolute Fake News. No one has an immunity to a coronavirus. Stop talking about stuff that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Google is your friend. Try typing outside of Thaivisa for your news

it's called common sense. Air travel is just about finished. Again, try looking outside of Thaivisa.

In Australia the PM stated that as restrictions eased pockets would continue to pop up, but that was acceptable as the hospitals were ready to deal with it.

Then in Melbourne cases started to pop up, the media started screaming 2nd wave, and the rush for toilet paper restarted. Parts of Melbourne are now under house arrest for 6 weeks. So again we see this is not about easing the burden on hospitals, the idiots are trying to exterminate a virus.

So will be no travel bubble between Oz and Thailand any time soon.

Latest research suggests that a 20% infection rate confers herd immunity, in other words the virus will die out naturally. This news was of course not well received by vaccine makers. The US is in a panic as cases rise, the media is going wild. What they are not reporting in that the death rates have been falling for weeks and continue to do so. Assuming this continues the whole thing should be over within 6 months. If so then we'll all wonder why governments in most countries got it wrong and destroyed their economies.

Herd immunity is an unproven concept. It has not happened in any country on the planet. This virus is not only a killer, it is incapacitating younger people that require months of rehabilitation.

The other myth is those countries that let it rage have economies that recover sooner. Sweden's economy has tanked along with everyone else, due to supply chain disruption.

Which country would you rather be in, one where the virus is under control, or one where it is infecting hundreds or thousands daily? Be careful what you wish for, and who you call idiots.

You're preaching to the converted. But thanks for the good advice, which one hopes others will follow.

Glad to hear this decision.

Makes me feel as though Thais possibly are not all about the money after all..

For many people in the country tourists are the only way to survive. (tour guides, drivers, small hotels and resorts, elephant camps ...)
To change to other jobs is nearly impossible for the majority of them as there are no jobs available.
Many guides spent a lot money (29 to 50k) for their licenses, no chance to use them now.
So what's your solution for them ?
Most did not even "qualify" for the 5000b payouts. Was a media bubble to safe face only.
Travel agencies who kicked their staff out from one day to the other get financial support. Fair?

Someone can explain to me this ''problem'' with the toilet paper? Sorry but i don't get it

What is the point to storing at home this product when there is no shortage of it in the shops?

Shows what a.....s they are ?

And who is surprised? That you can use a gun do not means anything else than just that.

If you look at the worldometers. There has not been any significant rise in cases in China or South Korea, Japan has increased a bit in the last week.

what requirements are ludicrous, other than 14-day quarantines?  if we're talking covid19 test and 100k insurance, those are just minor inconveniences.  limited travel zones are also not really important for chinese tourists.

if thailand wants the chinese tourists, and as long as the two governments can agree to forego quarantines, then the bubble-hub is a go.  from the chinese end, citizens are tracked by gps/phone, and can verify no travel to an outbreak zone within 30 days.  a visit to the local PSB could get a certificate for that.  they'll be required to have a similar tracking app for thailand.

it's already possible to get a covid19 test at any government hospital for about $35.  short-duration travel insurance with covid19 cover is available for at little as $40 for two weeks from western carriers.  if the chinese government mandates PICC to provide this, they will make it so.  should be no problem to add these minor costs into the price of a zero-dollar tour.

chinese airlines are flying domestically, and would have no problem adding flights to thailand.  middle seats empty?  no problem, fuel is super cheap.

now about that restricted travel zone....so what?  as long as they get to play on the beach for a couple weeks, with all-you-can-gorge buffets and watersports, they've got their tropical vacation.  add in a ladyboy performance, a few temple visits and some duty-free shopping and you're golden.

there are enough lower middle class with money to spend and time available ready to travel now, enough to give thailand a decent fourth quarter for the tourism sector.

Expect another U-Turn tomorrow.

Can't see why Thailand is not opening up to EU while they allow Thai citizens to come in.

I guess after China the EU probably the biggest number of tourists coming to Thailand.

And with the ending summer, many tourists from Europe would like to spend some warmer days here.

There would be quite a lot of European countries with very low cases but i guess TAT can't even find them on a map.

And if no vaccine available on a widespread basis is not forthcoming? It could be years, maybe even longer than the virus itself takes to die out. You do understand the huge economic cost of closed gates. The reality is it’s a delicate and imprecise balancing act.

Maybe because of something called covid19 ?

The Thais returning at home from europe are quarantined for 14 days

do you think a tourist on a 1 month annual holiday is ready to accept

to stay confined in an hotel room during 14 days at his own expenses?

I don't think so

If you look at the returnees and infections only one of recent arrived from the U.K. albeit it only takes one to infect more.

There's a big difference between contracting the virus and being contagious to those around you but without symptoms VS somehow being immune to the virus.

I haven't read or seen anything like what you seem to be suggesting about any significant portion of the previously un-infected population somehow being "impervious" or immune to the virus itself. Once again, opinions offered, but no link to any credible supporting evidence.

Actually it is there. Recent article by a noted swiss immunologist. The author, Beda M Stadler is the former director of the Institute for Immunology at the University of Bern, a biologist and professor emeritus. "In mid-April work was published by the group of Andreas Thiel at the Charité Berlin. A paper with 30 authors, amongst them the virologist Christian Drosten. It showed that in 34 % of people in Berlin who had never been in contact with the Sars-CoV-2 virus showed nonetheless T-cell immunity against it (T-cell immunity is a different kind of immune reaction, see below)."

Here's another interesting part of the article. Positive test can come from immune system after there immune systems shatter the virus. "So if we do a PCR corona test on an immune person, it is not a virus that is detected, but a small shattered part of the viral genome. The test comes back positive for as long as there are tiny shattered parts of the virus left. Correct: Even if the infectious viri are long dead, a corona test can come back positive, because the PCR method multiplies even a tiny fraction of the viral genetic material enough [to be detected]. "

A very interesting read. He also takes issue with asymptomatic people(as opposed to presympotmatic) being infectious. He believes they are testing positive due to the nature of the PCR test, but immune and non-infectious. https://medium.com/@vernunftundrichtigkeit/coronavirus-why-everyone-was-wrong-fce6db5ba809

OH NO! Can’t have a “Flu” now! Gotta depress the economy, skyrocket your unemployment and suicides because apparently countries who don’t even have their HIV numbers down are more concerned of a virus with the same or less mortality of a FLU. My God the people that buy into all this are morons.

Clearly this is revenge by the UK due to Thailand's draconian requirements for entry for UK citizens - 14 day quarantine, $100,000 insurance, doctors free to fly certificate, approval by Thai embassy etc.etc.. Well  done Boris.

China should have never been on that list to begin with

In China At least their citizens listen and obey the rules when needed. Unlike a lot of "first world countries".

Open up but have control over the country. In case of second wave you close specific areas.

This is causing financial crises beyond repair.
